Winning two sudden-denti- play- 01! tilts by scores of 7-6 and 19-11 Nspectively, 8th Battery softball team captured the City title and Pickard Trophy on games played over the weekend. The victory glvfls the Battery team the right to meet Borden Nationals for the Island title.

In their first game with the Iii-Y Club for the championship of “B" section, young Tom Campi bell bested Walter Goss in a. tight hurling duel to cop the decision '1 to 6. A four-run splurge in their first tum at bat gave the winners a lead which they never relin- quished, although pressed hard in the final two frames, smart field- ing saving the day.

Four homers were hit during the game, Power and Owen for the lBatiery and Storey and McDonald ‘ for the Hi-Y.

CHICAGO, Sept. 16.-Cha.nces of settling the differences between Chicago Black Hawks of the Nation- al Hockey League and the Chicago Stadium appeared brighter today with word that a compromise had been suggested.

Black Hawks, who refused a de- mand from the Stadium for a 25- year lease and then cancelled all orders for new equipment and the team's training arrangements at the University of Illinois, were reported considering n compromise offer from (‘he rink mailagement. Anyway the Hawks have ordered new uniforms and have leased training quarters at the University.

Referring to the start of the con- test, he said:

"We couldn't make up our minds whether to use the Genoa or the double-clewed jib. We don't like the Genoa jib; we don't understand them. But before the start the weight of the wind was such that I set the double clew jib. When it lightened, I felt that we had to use the Genoa so that at least we would be carrying the some canvas as Rainbow. We had it all right at the gun, but we were a bit late. l "With the weight of the wind Sat- urday I should say that Rainbow was very slightly superior in weather work under‘ such conditions. Wid- ener, owner of Sun Chance, the big brown colt who yesterday kicked mud and water into the faces of 13 of the leading two-year-oids to win the Belmont Park classic handily.

Given only an B-to-l chance to whip such great juveniles as E. R. Bradley's Balladler. and Mrs. Dodge Sloaneis Psychic Bid. Sun Chance stepped past the judge's stand with four lengths to spare over the Bradley ace and holder of the track record for the 6 1-2 flir- longs. Mrs. Payne Whitney's Plat Eye was another half-length back in third place, leading William Woodward's Omaha. by the same distance.

Less than two weeks ago, Ballad- ier whirled clown the Widener straightaway in 1:16 3-5 to hang up the new track mark.
