'The Summerslde Lobster Car- nival this year will feature the distinctive craftsmanship of Herbert Leavitt, of Alberton, whose “Maple Tree Cr " brand of woodwork has won recognition throughout Canada for its exceptional quality.

Mr. Leavitt will be a guest tonight on the TV program "Gazette", where he will be interviewed in regard to his specialized craft, and its first public demonstration of the art to be seen at the Summerslde Lobster Carnival in July.

The Leavitt display will be located within the carnival head-

will feature samples of the various products made by this plant, and will also have on hand the necessary specialized woodworking equipment to show the various stages of manu- facture from the rough wood to the finished product.

This industry, almost a family operation. began as a child- hood hobby when Mr. Leavint was given a small hobby wood working set by his parents who ‘ encouraged him in the develop-

t of his natural talent in this field, by buying the items ade.

Later while serving with the RCAF he continued his wood- working interests. and when he returned home he renewed this Interest with so much succem and satisfaction that he began making it a means of livelihood. HAS SKILLED HELP

Perfecting the procedures. and developing new methods and techniques in log shop beside his Albrrton home. Mr. Leavitt is assisted by his wife, whose skill in cop- per work and design have been incorporated into many of the articles produced.

Mr. and Mrs. Leavitt have also been assisted for the past few years by Kenneth Quigliey, an expert in all phases of the work‘ who has originated some of the special items. and added to the output of the plant.
