Ellerslie Man Heads P.E.I. Fish . Game Ass'n

Mr. Richard Pound of Ellerslie was elected President of the Prince Edward Island Fish and Game Protection Auoclation at the an- nual meeting of the Association held recently in Southport. He suc- ceeds the retiring president. Mr. Stewart Jones

The well attended meeting was addressed by Mr. P.A. Murnaghan. Deputy Minister of Industry and Nauiral Resources who spoke of the good work of the association and the action that his depart- ment had taken as the result of 1 ommendations from the Provin- cial Branches.

Mr. Murnaghaii cautioned luzainst the choosing of dam improvement for dual purposes, such as power and angling, as cement dams are required. Referring to the Pownal Pond he stated that the site could not be decided until thelocation of the Trans-Canada Highway had been set.

Guests present at the meeting in- cluded Messrs. W. Saunders, Allison Tait, K. M, Spence, Spur-geon Jenk- ins, Mr. Gaudet. Mr. Carin, Mr. Shepherd, Mr. MacGillivai-y and Mr. Tom Lothlan.

Mr. J.A. Rodd was elected an honorary life member of the As- sociation and a vote of thanks was extended from the meeting to the r;tll-ing president Mr. Jones.

Tile members and guesm heard reports from Messrs. E.K. Mac- Niltt, President of the Queens County Branch: Richard Found. President of the Prince County Branch and a brief report from Judge Sylvere DesR.oches, President of the Kings County Association.

The Protection Officers report was slibmitied by Mr. Spurgeon Jenkins and the Hatchery report by Mr. Allison Tait. Mr. I-LR. Ves- scv read the membership and scu- .reiary-treasurei"s reports.

The meeting passed a resolution asking that raccoons he removed from the protected list and that they be considered as predators with an open season all year round. The members also passed a motion recommending that the Association branches deal with the fox bounty business and consider an increase to 34.00 per fox.

Speaking of the goose season Mr. Stewart Jones stated that he be- lieved a change is to be made in the seasonal dates which will be unpopular with gunners. In the lively debate which followed, it was pointed out that the present dates are Oct. 1st to Nov. 26th. A resolu- tion was passed which asked that no change be made in the present dates.
