Perry Rockwood, who resigned his pulpit and from the Presbyterian Church in Can- ada rather than accept the dis- ciplinary action of an ecclesiastical court. today preached his first sermon before an independent con- gregation attending the opening service of his non-denominational church.

The 29-year-old preacher held service in a temporary meeting place in a school hall and told his listeners that "we are not going to fear men nor the sin in men... we shall face it boldly with the power of God at our disposal."

An estimated 150 attended the service while approximately 100 worshipped gt St. James, the church from which Mr. Rockwood resign- ed. Both congregations were good considering unfavorable weather conditions.

A new Roman Catholic chapel has been construct- cd in the prison and the existing chapel, has been altered and refur- iiished for Protestant services A more satisfactory water system has been installed from the penitentiary reserve. General Gibson. recommends that penitentiary officers 2mm the Maritime; and other parts of Can- adla be sent to Ottorwu for special courses iin- the gun-ruling and hand- ling of prisoners. These new-courses now being planned will be given at Ottawa headquarters of the RJCMP under the supervLsion of RCMP. commissioner S.T. Wood.

These courses will be open not only to new applimn-is for the lW-Il- itentiary services but will serve as refresher training for guards and other penitentiary officers ilc-rv in the service.

Provincial Needs
