Births Set New Record During ’57, Is Report

The bureau, in a prelimini vital statistics report, said high: rose to a record 469,093, an im- crease of 18,354 compared with 1956.

Deaths last year also rose to a record 136,579 tram 131,961 the previom year. The death rate, however, was only 8.2 for each 1,000 of population, one of the lowest in the world.
