Cadets To Tour li.C.A.F. Oiaiion

Members of No. so Charlotte- mn Squadron. Royal Canadian Air Cadets are to be taken on a conducted tour of the R. C. A. F. station on Saturday under leader- ship which is calculated to give them an insight into fighting planes and the effective operation of a Station which is denied to citizens generally.

The squadron will leave Char- loitrtmin by R. C. A. 17'. bus at 7:30 am on Saturday and on arrival at Summerside many will be taken on a flight immediately in order that all members may have that experi- ence some time during the day. In the afternoon the city cadets will take part in a rifle shooting com- petition with the members of the Summersirle cadet unit.

This rather big job of bringing 160 boys from both units together in a round of activity at the same time on the Station, has been ar- rangrd with Group Captain Ken- yon. Commanding Officer of the -laiion through liaison officers. Squadron Leader Corrigan and F0 Motiuk. both of whom are stationed in Summerside.

It was a very happy throng of

donors who packed the Char- lottetown Armouries from the time the clinic was officially

opened at 1 o'clock by Hon. B. Earle MacDonald, who was the first donor. until the last of the 523 donors went through at 11 p.m. it was a long grind for the mobile team-for whom this was a record attendance at an after- noon and evening clinic-but the co-operation received on all sides, but particularly from members of the staff at the Armourles as well as the units of the army based there. made the additional work very pleasant.

Honours go to the student body at St. Dunstanls University which produced almost 100 don- ors for the Charlottetown clinic from its membership. The Re- serve Army was there in force and the utmost co-operation was received from many firms who released their employees to swell the numbers at the afternoon clinic. A much appreciated gift of a carton of milk was received from Central Creameries.

happy to find that 26m of the donors reporting at yesterday's clinics were attending for the "first" time-a very encouraging sign. It would have been im- possible to handle this large number of donors in one after-

Red Cross officials said last evening that if this record atten- dance can be maintained at the clinics to be held today and to- morrow st Mount Stewart, North Rustico, Long Creek and Sum- merside there will be a sufficient amount of blood to maintain the service for patients in local hos- pitals and provide some of the blood now required for the man- ufacture of gamma globulin to aid in the fight against polio.

Repeal Program Huge Success

The Great Morton followed up his initial hit of Monday with the people of Charlottetown and vicinity by staging another laugh-provoking session before a capacity attendance in the Aud- itorium of P.W.C. last evening.

Feats of memory, amazing sharpsliooting results and the highly amusing scenes created by a dozen or more volunteer sub- jects who submitted themselves to suggestions from Dr. Morton whilst under hypnotic control, varied the programme.

Not content with an exhibi- tion of his slHl in this respect. the versatileDoclorsang a couple of numbers including "Barnacle Bill the Sailor" in a manner that identified him as a clever comed- ian. An Australian yodelllng song was also cleverly executed and well received. A number of Dr. Morton's special numbers have been recorded by up leading Am- erican distributing firm.

The third of the series of per- formances hy Dr. Morton will take place this evening in the College auditorium.

POLICE COURT - A mm charged with g scion of stolen goods appeared before Magistrate Martin yesterday morning in City Police Court and was remanded until the 6th of this month. The case arose out of the accused being apprehended by police while he was in possession of blanloem which were later reported stolen from a parked automobile.

BEAN SUPPER - More than 250 persons enjoyed an old fashioned bean supper with all the trim- mings arranged by the ladies of the Home League of the Salvation Army in the Young People's Hall last evening. The newly renovated hall and modernized kitchen en- abled the committee in charge to make a splendid job of catering. A successful sale of fancywork and novelties was also conducted. Mrs. B. B. Crockett. Mrs. Warren Hen- derson and Mrs. Capt. 'I'ltcombe constituted the committee in charge. Mrs. Ernest Carr is see- retary of the Home League.

YOUNG PEOPLES MEETING -The Central Christian young people held their regular meeting last evening in Ilhe Church Annex. The meeting opened by a sing-song led by Myrna Arthur. The devot- ional period was led by Shirley Vessey. Two large sea balls were caught In the Hillsboro River yesterday, about half a mile below Mt. -S'.e- wart village. Mr. Albert McIntyre was surprised when he hauled his smelt nets to find, the big fish trapped in the meshes. The larg- est. weighed twenty-two pounds. and the smaller sixteen pounds.

Mr. McIntyre notified the Pro- vincial Department of Industry and Resources of the catch, and Mr. B. Graham Rogers, a depart- mental official and Mr. Eh-skine MacNutt, President of the Queens County Fish and Game Associa- tion went to Mt. Stewart. uid re- turned to the city with the big fish. They con.sultedAMr. Stewart Jones, President of the Maritime Fish and Game Association. and the latter called in nofesso Lat.h.ian, teacher of biology at Prince of Wales college, to iden- tify the species of fish.

Professor Lotrhian confirmed that the fish were lmoiwn as strip- ed senvbah. The Mt. Stewart fisherman had expressed the opin- ion that the we specimens were sea bass, but the Fish and Game OIIICEJS were anxious to make the identification positive.

The fishermen also informed Fish and Game officials that an- other large bus was netted a few days ago weighing more than twenty pounds.

According to Mt. Stewart resid- ents r. few bass were caught in the river until about ten years ago, but usually in the month of June. For some unknown reason the fish stopped frequenting the Mt. Stewart area, and the fisher- men were quite surprised that they had reappeared and particu- larly at this time of year.

The Provincial Resources De- partment is very much interested in reports of sea bass in Provincial waters. If these large game fish moved into Island rivers in any quanities they would attract fish- ermen from all over America.

Local C. W. L. Monthly Meeting

Charlottetown sub-division C. W. L. held its regular monthly meet- ing Tuesday evening in the Knights of Columbus Home. The Reverend Director, Father P. F. MacDonald. was present and the president Mrs. Fred J. Steele presided.

Following prayer for the open- ing of meetings, Miss Marlon Dou- gan played "0 Canada? .Business proceeded with the reading of the minutes of previous executive and monthly meetings which were ap- proved as read by the recording secretary, Mrs. C. L. MacDonald. The financial statement was read by the treasurer and approved, all bills being voted to be paid.
