He said that be bad always had & great respect for the Government leader; that he bad always regarded him as @ man who would not descend to political trick- ery; that he nad always looked upon him a8 & man Of integrity, principle and hocor ; ene who would to imitate the methods and practices of the degenerate politician. He felt bound to confess, however, that bis idol had been shattered, and that Laurier was,afier #l!, very much like the ordinary politician of the present day—a man who woul! sacritice integrity to the exigencies of parvy pelitice, aud to love of office.

The following resolutions were adopt- ed :

“That the Quebec Executive of the Dominion Alliance bas learned with deep regret of the decision of the Premier to re- fuse to grant the mands‘te of the Canadian people as expressed tn the r-cent plebis- cite, to abolish the maiufacture, importa- tion and sale of liquors.

“The interpretation put by the Premier upon the plebiscite we consider manifestly erroneous, From the assuraace given by the Premier in Parliament and elxewhere we hada right te expect that a majority of electors voting in the plebiscite would be accepted as an expression of the will of the people, in this instance as all others.

“That wedo not regard this decision as fiovl, there is yet an appeal to the people’e representatives in Parliament, a large number of whose constituencies have declared in favor of prohibition.

“Therefore, be it resolved that we re- commend the Council of the Alliance to secure the introduction is Parliament of a resolution declaring in favour of prohibi tion, and endeavour to secure @ vote which shall! be free from political party inflaence and if the Parliament accepts such 4 re- solution and it is carried, the Government be asked to introduce such legislation.

“We declare it to be the purpose of this Alliance, and the duty of every temper~ ance elector to use every loyal means avail! able todefeat any member voting against such resolution and to elect any who shal! vote in its ‘avour.

“That temperance electors shall take immediate ateps to interview their federal representatives and secure their promise to support the prohibitory resolution, in the present session ; when persoval interviews cannot be had, letters should be semt to the members at Uttawa urgiog such action. Churches and other bodies favorable to prohibition are requested to take similar action.

Another question discussed by the Exe~ ¢utive had reference totbe alleged whole- sale stuffing of bailot boxes in this pro- vince, by returning officers, during the receut plebiscite vote. Mr. Carson eaid that the Alliance was in possession of cer- eoonected with such which scandalous condition of affairs had existed. Corroborative evi- dence would be obtained,aad then the Government would be asked totske de- finite action in the matier, with a view of of punisbing those who had been guilty ofcorrayt:ble practice.
