Mr. Dyrus lilting To Address Students

Cyrus 5. Ohlng, labour and in- dustrlal relations expert will be commencement speaker at Colby College in Watervillej Maine. on June 14, according to an announce- ment made yesterday by the Col- lege President.

Mr. Chlng who was born at Red Point in this province is a grad- uate of Prince of Wales College and studied law at Northeastern University. He is chairman of the Atomic Energy Labor-Management Relations Panel. and from 1947 until 1952 was director of the Fed- eral Mediation and Conciliation Service of the United States.

He has written a. number oi articles for several journals and has lectured on industrial rela- tions at Dartmouth, Yale. Har- vard. Vassar and the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Ching's book "Review and Reflection", dealing with industrial relation: was pub- limed last October.

Fish Prices And . Legislative Debates

HALIFAX, (CF)-Fish prices and shipping are interfering with transcription of debates in the Nova Bcotia legislature.

Earl Urquhart (L-Richmond) told the legislature Monday that the secretaries are finding it diffi- cult to work from the recordings which often have bits' of broad- cast fish prices and harbor mes- sages.

These are freak receptions pick- ed up by the recording equipment.

Russell Cunningham (CCF-Cape Breton East) said he could not even understand some of his own comments when they were played back to him.

This is the first year the trans- cription service has been used in the house.

BOY SCOUT COURSE - BOY Scout ambulance man's course met again last night at Red Cross headquarters for their second night of the course. 21 boys at- tended from Trinity, Baptist and St. James troops with three Scouts starting the course from Parkdale troop. A Red Cross film was shown to the boys stressing how carelessness causes accidents. All boys took part in pratlcal work with splints and bandages. after which study was made on frost- bite. burns. sprains and bruises.

CHILD INJURED-willie Mac- Donald, five-year-old son of Mrs. Gladys MacDonald, 266 Euswn Street. was taken to the City Hos- pital yesterday when he was struck by 1 two wheel horse drawn sulky u he played near the curb in front of his home. Several stitches were required to close a wound on his head but the little lad was re- leased to his home later in the same day. The driver of the trot- ting horse which was belnx exer- cised reports that the animal lhled causing the wheel to strike the child.

The Young People's Society of Brookfield were guests of Zion Y P. S. at an enjoyable meeting held last evening in Zion Church Hall The meeting was presided over during the devotional period by Miss Kay Garrihum and John whiteway.

The sing-song was conducted by Earl Beaton with Mr. Frank John- ston at the piano. The games per- lod was directed by Roddie Hic- kox during which time a number of skits were presented.

Following a delicious lunch serv- ed by the Soclal Committee. Rev. Lawrence Blaikie expressed the thanks and appreciatlouof the Brookfield society for a very an- joyable evening. "Blessed be the tie that binds" was sung as the evening was brought to a con- clusion with the Benediction pro- nounced by Rev. Mr. Blalkle.

The devotion- al period was closed with a study of the fourth chapter of Matthew and the singing of "I Will Pilot Thee."

David Stewart made his second appearance before a large and ap- preciative audience in the audit- orium of Prince of Wales College last evening and once again dem- nnstrsted his ability as a hypnot- lst capable of staging an evening of carefree and enlightening en- tcrtalnment.

An entirely new group of VOI- unteer subjects from the audience entered wholeheartedly into the various demonstrations of hypno- tic control and gave every indica- tion of enoying the various sit- uations produced by suggestions. This was particularly in evidence as Mr. Stewart pointed out imag- inary defects in persons in the audience which brought forth peal after peal of laughter from those on the stage.

Mr. Stewart also gave a clever demonstration of rope spinning, lnssoin: and manipulating the Australian bull whip. In this number he was assisted by :1 number of Boy Scouts who ap- parently thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Following his usual custom of giving an exhibition of rope spin- n'ng to "shut-ins" when the op- pnrtunity presents itself. Mr. Stewart visited the Sanatorlum yesterday and entertained various groups of patients. some of the young patients following brief instructions were given an op- portunity to try simple spins themselves. He also showed the boys how to make a boomerang out of Balsa wood.

The treat reserved for the older patients was a demonstration of memory training which was high- lv amusing, strictly accurate. and much enjoyed.

State's Uranium

In a toast to the Queen's health, Premier Playford referred to the exploitation and development of uranium deposits in south Au- stralia. He sa1d.the work has been most successful and the uranium "will provide stratglc material of great value for the defence of the

Earlier Tuesday, dozens of wo- men and children fainted when they were crushed in I dense crowd waiting to see the Queen and the duke drive to open the state parliament.

Death In Edmonton Dt Mr. Samuel Lows

The dclth of Samuel Rankin Lowe occurred in Edmonton, Al- berta on March 23rd. after a long illness. He was in his 09th year.

Mr. Lowe was born in Charlotte- town. the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bameul Lowe, and went to Western Canada in 1908 where he was engaged in the hardware business until the outbreak of has- tilities in 1914. He joined up with the 48th. Highlanders in Edmon- ton and went overseas with his unit as a member of the First Canadian Contingent.

He was severely wounded in ac- tion and following hospitalization in Scotland for several months he .recovered sufficiently to resumn service in the Forestry Corps where
