As the semester comes to anend and graduation slowly approaches, senior business students at UPEI can be found putting the finishing touches on their Policy Projects. The reports, which were handed over to professors in mid-March, willbe formally pre-

sented to faculty, students and the general public this week,

The idea of the project, which has been a part of the business program since 1973, is for students todoa feasibility study ofa proposed business venture. It combines the knowledge and skills students have acquired in all of their previous business courses into one report,

Students, who work in groups of 4-5 have been work- ing diligently on their projects since September. The projects are judged on the quality of the research and the overall presentation, among other things. Cash prizes will be awarded for outstanding projects. The winners will be announced on April 7th at 4PM in the Kelly Building, room 237.

At one time, the Policy Project wasa distinguishing | feature of the School of Business at UPEI. Since tha time, however, several other universities have adopte the concept. The projects often catch the interest of local business people who look forward to the oppor- tunity to learn more about the feasibility of new concepts. A significant number of projects have actually been the basis for existing businesses. Ther have beenrumours in the past suggesting that Policy Projects will be eliminated from the business pro- gram, but business professor.Tim Carroll feels that this is highly unlikely. He Says that the project is the one activity that gives students the Opportunity to apply and work with the tools they’ ve acquired over their four years in the business program. He adds that the projects get good funding support from the Provincial Government and actasa linkage between the school and the community.

Presentations are scheduled for April Ist - 3rd, begin: ning each day at9AM and running throughout the day (see next page fora complete listing of projects and — times). The public is welcome to attend. |
