Gas, he said, has been used in war since AD. 300 when the Spartons used it and at intervals since. Premier Campbell: ‘The sire of the balloon may vary under pres- sure, but it does not altogether disappear. Where is the bulgcihis time? In extracts. The trade in es- sences and extracts has become so extensive that I believe it now pre- sents the major problem in Prohi- bition enforcement."

“The Government came to this session with the knowledge that the resent provisions of the Pro_ hlbit on Act regarding control of extracts are entirely inadequate,” the Premier said. "The only c011- trols are the limitation on the quantity which can be sold to any customer at one time-two ounces- and the requirement of keeping re- cord of purchases and sales. The Government came to this Legisla- ture with a. draft bill prepared which “was intended to give more effective control of essences. As we consulted with our colleagues on this side oi’ the House we came to the conclusion that any form of control of this obnoxious trade would be inadequate, and that therefore tne only effective meth- od of control of alcoholic extracts and essences was complete prohi- bition, and the House will be ask- ed to consider a proposal to that effect.

New Concoction

“We used to hear only of lemon extract and vanilla extract. but re- cently orange extracts have been popular and a few days ago a new concoction has been discovered. A man was arrested in Summer- side the other day in a severely intoxicated condition, and on his person was seized a. ‘teddy‘ of what is known as cherry extract. It had a rather pleasant smell but was apparently u very potent liq- uor. The Police immediately begun to investigate this situation. and I am glad to report that their Vig- ilance and enersy were rewariir-rl last night, and they were able to seize a car containing approxim- ately sixteen gallons of this hcw
