Three Killed In Traffic Accident

The vanguard of the agricultural scientists headed by Dr. F. J. Greaney of Winnipeg arrived in the City over the week-end for the 30th annual meeting of the Agricultural Institute of Canada which officially opens here tomor- row. About 40 specialists have.sr- rived already.

Among the arrivals were ten directors of the Institute who a- long with President Grcaney Will. meet today. Others who arrived were the delegates attending Seed Growers meeting in Fredericton last week.

A number of the members and their wives were being registered last night in the lobby of the Charlottetown Hotel by Messrs, Bruce MacLaren and Lorne Cali- beck. The remainder will be reg- istered today and' tomorrow. Approximately 200 men and about 100 women and children from outside the Province are ex- pected to take part in what prob- ably will be the biggest agricult- ural meeting ever held in Prince Edward island. Added to these numbers are around 40 Island members.

The directors will hold their Na- tional Council meeting this morn- ing in the Charlottetown Hotel. This evening the Canadian Phyto- pathological Society will meet in the Vocational School and tonight at nine o'clock a coffee party will be held in The Charlottetown. Meeting in extraordinary Sun- day sesslon. which boycotting Rus- sian delegates ignored, the Council called on all U. N. members to give "every assistance" to the resolution ordering a cease-fire in Korea, and to refrain from help- ing North Korea.

The resolution, sponsored by the United States, was pas- sed by is vote of 9-0, with Yug- oslavia abstaining, after Trygve Lie, U. N. secretary-general. termed the situation "serious" and is "threat. to international peace." ,

Canada is not a member of the Council, but John Holmes, acting head of the Canadian delegation, was in the audience which filled the council chamber to capacity despite the short notice of the meeting.

The Dominion is among the 30- odd countries which have recogniz- ed thc republic of Korea. set up in the south following a popular vote supervised by U. N. observers.

The Korean question was the most serious immediate crisis to be laid before the Council since the Russians began their boycotts Jan. 10

The unprecedented rains washed out sections of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroadis main-line track through the flood area. Damage ran into the millions.

Record PEI Certified Seed Potato Shipments

Exports of Prince Edward Island certified seed potatoes from the 1949 crop constituted an all time record high amounting to 4,980.- 645 bushels. it was reported on

Saturday by Mr. S. G. Peppin. head of the seed Certification Service. This is the equivalent

of 6.613 carloads of 750 bushels each. This figure represents an increase over shipments made the previous year amounting to slight- ly over 700,000 bushels.

A new record was also estab- lished for shipments to the United States, The total of 3.564.386 bush- els to that country represents an increase of 298,810 bushels over the previous record high establish- ed for the 1948 crop.
