I'll say they wero not alert to our needs when they decided to oppose Mr. Miller. They could better have waited a couple of years, for the general election. and got Mr. Mc- Lean better prepared than to hand him a defeat now and spoil the political career ot a disting- uished young man.

I Annual Matting cIi'town Auxiliary ' Protestant Orphanage

The annual meeting of the Char- lotntetown Auxiliary of the Pro- testant. Orphanage was held in Trinity Church Hall. Thursday. June 21st at 3:30. There was a large attendance with the Prea- ident. Mrs.-I. A. Home presiding.

The various reports presented were exceptionally good. showing the year to be one of the best in the history ol the Charlottetown Auxiliary.

Mrs. H. 5. Henderson, vice- chairman of the Trustee Board. expressed the sincere appreciation of the Trustees for the outstand- ing work carried on each year by the Auxiliary and extended an invitation to the members to at- tend the annual meeting oi the .'ProvincinI Auxiliary being held in the Orphanage Thursday. June 28th.

A vote of thanks was passed to the Trustees of Trinity Church for the use of the fine ha-II.

The Federal by-election cam- paign in this dual constituency at Queen's has been warming up as the polling datc-June 26-ap- nroschcs. Party big guns are mov- ing into the iray as rallies scheduled lor the week-end. Tonight Postmaster General Riniret is slated to address it Lib- oral rally in the Empire Theatre here, while less than a block away Progressive Conservative Leader George A. Drew will be speaking at. the Prince Edward Theatre. The candidates, J. Angus Mav- Lean. Progressive Conservative and Cecil A. Miller, Liberal. have liven holding meetings in rural nrnas for more than a week now.

The by-election was called to fill a vacancy caused by the death last winter of J. L. Douglas. LI.be-r- al. A Liborul and a Progressive Conservative have represented the constituency since 1945. For two sessions prior to that, two Libernls were elected here.

The principal issue has been the Government's record and whether the constituency should

send it Government supportor to Ottawa. or whether there should be a protest vote through election 0' another Opposition candidate. A long stream oi automobiles caused a brief tratilc jam last evening as it paused in Victoria

Park to hear the hand concert of the Royal Caunzlinzi Airiorce Central Band of Ottawa, Ontario.

One of the hotter bands in the Dominion. thin group has an in- tprnational reputation which be- gan with its supplying music for the Hollywood produfllnn or "Cap- tains of the Clouds.' It has trav- elled thousands of miles giving concerts of this type and pl.1:,'in;,' ior dancing. and always takes along a special mascot drum which bears more than 150 signnturrs or famous personalities.
