(British United Prose) LONDON, Sept. 21. ——’l‘he move- ment for extension of an imperial preference order to protect British industries is gathering strength and one trade after another is foi- lowing the example of the woollen industry taken last week of de- manding government aid in order to save these staple industries from ruin.

The Conservative press of Brit- ain professes the bellef that Brit- ish ‘industry today is on the verge of an abyss owing to competition in European countries where cur- rency haa ‘been inflated thus caus- ing money to have a low value. Today there ls a growing body of opinion whcih believes that iEng- land should deliberately inflate her currency after the German and Russian manner although not of course to the same extent in order that the depreciated value of the pound sterling would have a better chance in competition with Ger- many and France and would also pay oi'f internal debts with less strain than under the financial sys- tem where the pound is almost at its pre-war exchange value. Farmers today are the latest industry to demand a subsidy. They claim it is impossible for
