Hon. Keir Clark said that the increasing interest in the Music Festival was having a profound effect on the educational and cul- tural iife of the Island. especially in the life of the young people. The Minister referred to the con- tinued growth of the Festival and wondered if local eliminati would do something to solve the problem of transportation which he felt was becoming acute for those in the distant rural areas.

He expressed appreciation for the untiring efforts of the various comml sees and was glad to note that the Department of Edllclfiun was able to be of assistance in the Festival work. "It is. I be- ueve. the major attraction of Centennial year in Charlottetown." said Mr. Clark.

Adding color to the opening ceremonies was the appearance of the P. E. I. Regiment (Reece) Band under the direction of Roy- ston P. Mugford. The Band was making their first appearance in their new uniforms of scarlet and gold tunics with navy striped trousers.

Colourful also in their own right. were two junior bands. namely Queen Charlotte High school and Susnmerside High school RCSC. These young men gave an excellent account of themselves and the audience felt that neither municipality need ever be without the services of a first class band. so long as boys were willing to ve of their time

Along the waterfront at savage Harbour everything is s hum. and a bustle those days in pre- paration for the lobster fishing season which opens Saturday. It has been said that wherever a stout: of men are stationed, if peace and match is to reign then there must be good food and lots of it. If that be true then the factory at Savage Harbour should be the centre for some of those International Peace Con- ferences. Mrs. Angus Matheson of Lorne Valley has returned for another season as cook and mg is being ably assisted by Miss Isabel Crane of Riverton.

The many friends of Joe Macin- tyre son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Maclntyre. Savage Harbour will be sorry to learn of his present illness. Joe who is a very popular little fellow has a host of friends pulling for his speedy and complete recovery.

The many friends of Mrs. Josie Douslas. Lester Gunn son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gunn, Savage Har- bour, suffered a severe and pain- ml ll1.lI1l')' over the week-end when his hand causht in a circular saw. Seven stitches were required to close the wound. It appears that on the previous day they had been "Wins firewood at the Gunn farm and the saw was left at the pile to be removed the first of the week. The kiddies fascinated. as they watch it tear through the huge sticks. decided to try it out themselves when the older people were not around. They had no gasoline engine but a rope wound around the pulley worked wonder- fully well. It is the sincere wish of all that Lester will suffer no permanent injury a a result of the accident.

The District Secretary. Rev. E. M. B. Wheelock. B.A.. reported on the work carried on in this Auxiliary. He was happy to note that out of the 83 branches in the Auxiliary 81 reported With I contribution. He requested co-op- eration throughout the coming year.

The treasurer. A. G. Putnam in presenting his report stating that general contributions totalled 39,882.82 which includes Life Membership and Memorial Certi- ficates issued. Bequests totalled soos.27. The Auxiliary grant for worldwide work was 37.50015. New Life Membership and five Mem- orial Certificates were issued dur- ing the year.

The secretary J. E. H. Worth. presented the Bible House and Dis- tribution reports. the Bible House it was noted had a satisfactory year. It was stated that Bible House had been the means of distributing a great deal of Scrip- tural and Bible House supplies.
