Tae Moxrn’s Recorp.— There were twenty-nine cases before the police court during the month of July. There were 12 conviction# for drunkenness, 5 for assault, 2 tor violating the Scott Act, 4 for nuis- ances and i for breach of the Lord’s Day Act. Three Scott Act cases were dismiss- ed. One assault case was sent up for trial in the Supreme Court. The receipts dur- ing the month amounted to $269.23.

We regret to learn that Rev. J. P. Mc- Grath has resigned the pastoral charge of Fifteen Point, and that he leaves today for Montreal, where he spent the past winter, and where he will be located for the future There is much regret that his health will not permit him to remain pastor of Fifteen Point. He is an able, zealous and bard-— working clergyman, and has many friends in this province, who will be sorry to know of his departure. WEDDING BELLS.
On Tuesday, July 16, at an early hour, occurted the marriage of Mr. Norman J. McDonald, of Grand Tracadie, to Miss Minnie McDonald, of Vernon River. The ceremony was performed at St. Joachim’s Church, Vernon River, the officiating clergyman being Rev. Father Arsenault. Miss Minnie McDonald, cousin of the bride acted as bridesmaid, while Mr. McDonald , was attended by Mr. David McDonald, of St. Andrew’s, as best man. The bride was charmingly dressed in most excellent taste; and after the ceremony Mr.and Mrs. McDonald received their friends at the bride’s home, where a delightful wedding supper was served. Many handsome and valuable presents were received. The happy couple started for their future home on Wednesday.

MORE STARTLING
DISCLOSURES, -_—— } So many startling disclosures have been made in the Holmes case that the police were hardly prepared for the evidence pro- duced last Sunday night, says a despatch from Chicago. Ii leaves little doubt, if true, that four persons were killed in the Holmes house. The skeleton them, presumably Mrs. Couner, is said to be im possession of the Iwo others, it was claimed, would be turned over to them on Monday, and the fourth | is said te have been sent to Philadelphia. A man named Charles Chapman was before the inspector on Sunday night, and told a most startling story. He said he had been Holmes’ machinist, and at his request had mounted three of skeletons. Each of them was got from an ar tight closet in the Holmes house. Just before this a man went on the stand and t Id the police that he had carried a box from the dark room in the Holmes house to adepot to be sent to Philadelphia. This | is believed to account for the fourth body. Upon infurmation obtained from Chapman, Inspector Fitzpatrick got possession of the trunk in which Holmes is alleged to have put the Wiltiams girl, which, he said he threw into the lake. The body was sent to a house on Wentworth avenue for Chap- man to work on. Chapman was taken to Holmes house in Englewood on } He pointed out two spots, one | in the northeast corner of the cellar and the other under the sub-walk where he claims the police will find beneath the sur- face two bricked graves and he is of the Opinion that a body may be found there.

New York, July 29.--The strike of Brotherhood Tailors is in full swing to- night. Over 16,000 hands are out, and include operators, button hole makers, tailors, finishers, pressers, bushellers bast: ers, fillers and thread pullers, Of the total number on strike 8,000 were until to-day employed in thiseity. The balance were employed in Brooklyn and other sur rounding cities.
Paris, Tex., July 29.—Henry Brad- shaw, a farmer, in bad health for some time, entered his house with a shot gun last evening and shot his wife in the back, then shot his four year old daughter in the head and literally blew it off. Brad- thaw reloaded the gun and lyixg on the floor placed the gun in his own mouth and pulled the trigger, almost decapitating himself. Bradshaw was sober and indus— trious, of good family, and no motive for the deed is given except he had grown weary of life and did not want to leave his | family.
Orrawa, July 27.— The acceptance of Major Herbert’s resignation has at last been offivially announced. It is more than likely he wili be succeeded bv Colonel Gascoigne, commander of the Scotch Grenadier Guards.
Rome, July 27— In the Chamber of Deputies: this morning Baron Blanc, minister of foreign affairs, made a state- ment in which he said that all of the powers had already recognized the pro- tectorate over Abysinnia which had been established by Italy, and had admitted that none of them was entitled to inter- vene between King Menelek and the Italian government. Menelek, he declared, had violated flagrantly the terms of the pro- tocol prohibiting slave trading in Abyssinia. Blane said he had the utmost confidence in the prosperous future of the Italian colony in Abyssivia and, if it should be- come necessary, Italy would defend it to the last. Baron Blanc’s statement was approved by the Chamber. Baron Blanc said there was a complete entente between England and Haly tiroughout the Nile | river and East Africa. Even France and
fu-sia had not protested against Italy’s position in Abyssinia.
Loxpox, July 29.—Rebert and Nath- aniel Coombes, aged respectively thirteen and eleven years, who murdered their mother three weeks ago by stabbing her while she was asleep, and_ lived ten days in the house with her decomposing body, were arraigned in the police court this merning. The police authorities avnounced that they would not charge the younger brother with participation iu the crime, but they would call him to witness. Nathaniel was then placed ia the witness box and told of his brother’s having bought the dagger with which the killing was done. He did not see his mother killed, but heard her groan and went into the room and looked at her while she was dying. His brother admitted to him that it was.he who killed her. The magistrate committed the elder brother, Robert, andthe half-witted man Fox who was arrested with the boys for trial on thecharge of murder and held Nathaniel as & witness.
