The ﬁrst contribution of fish- ing to the economy is measured in terms of landed value —that is the amount of money earned by fishermen from their sales of fish and shellfish. In 1962 this reached a record of $125 million and the average for the 3 years ISO -62 was $114 mil- lion. British Columbia. Nova Scotia and Newfoundland ac- counted for over 70 per cent of this total landed value. The pat- tern of provincial landings in quantities alone does not quite parallel the value.
