AmsterDam, Sept. 14—With the en- thronement festivities well nigh over, Queen Wilhelmina is prepared to assume the responsibilities of royalty, which she realizes to the fullest extent. The Queen values her high position, and stories told of her self-will are evidently not exaggerat- e!. The proclamation in the Church originally began, as written by the Prime Minister, “‘To the people of the Nether-

so as to read, “To my people.”

During the special performance at the Royal theatre, when the Queen and the encire house were standing during the chorus, the Queen’sa song book happened to be lying on the rail before ber. With a sharp nudge of her elbow, sbe prompted the Queen mother, who was standing by her side, to stoop, open the book, aud hand itto her hangbhtv young Majesty.

Her love of effect is evinced by the fact that a pew window in honour of the House of Orange was placed in the church where the coronation occurred, and especi~ silly for the occasion, and the (Queen ar~ ranged that the ceremony should be so timed that the suolight, streaming tbrongh, should fall full upon ber.

The people however, love and reverence her, and her name is everywhere the signal for eathusiastic cheering. On her return to the Hague a noted perfumer brought out jara aad bottles of the rarest extracts, which were sprinkled on the ground or thrown into theair before the royal carriage.

British Navy Salutes.

A salute in the British navy between two ships of equal rank is made by fir- ing an equal number of guns. If the vessels are of unequal rank, the superior fires the fewer rounds. A royal salute consists of (1) in firing 21 great guns, (2) in the officers lowering their sword points and (3) in dipping the colors.
