OTFAWA. Feb. 22-(CF) -POIF ruinous awards of the Bronze Cross. the highest award in scout- ing, have been made to two you!!! scouts who lost. their lives while attempting to save other PEYSOM irom drowning.
The awards were among 53 hon- or: and awards announced in con- nection with the anniversary oi the birthday of Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell. founder oi the Boy scouts movement.
The Bronze Cross. which can only be won where the claimant has shown specialherolsm or faced extraordinary risk.-i. was awarded to Scout David Kruse. 15. of the us Gagpe Troop, Quebec. and Cub Wlyne Prescott. 10. 4th Pembroke Pack, Pembroke. Ont.
scout Kruse lost his life when he attempted to rescue another boy from drowning at Halimand Beach in the Bay of Gaspe. Cub Prescott was drowned when he went. to the. auistance of a small girl who had Iiipped while swimminiz into a not hole in the Indian River.

Father Cloran. A native of Montreal. died last week-end at Charlottetown While on a retreat engagement. The body was taken from Si, Peter's Rectory here yes- terday morning, where it had rested since being brought from Charlottetown. and lay in state last evening at the church. The office of the dead was recited at 7.30 p. m. and a guard of honor composed of members of the Knights of Columbus and St. Pet- er's Holy Name Society kept vigil during the night.

Mr. Reymond has made 70 re- servations for the dinner and said today he is expecting ioo per cent attendance. The dinner will also be attended by Mr. Harry Beall, Representative of Community Concert service. who will address the meeting and be present for the entire week to assist in the cam- Daign.

themselves the Irwin Christian Fellowship Group. It was agreed that Sunday.
March 9th should be set aside as the first Sundav for the visiting of the sick and shut-ins.
The group enjoyed three films: a vocal quartette. a travelogue on Newfoundland and an impression-
istic film called "Begone Dull Care".

An RCAF plane has been dis- patched to Resolute. Cornwallis Is- land. 1000 miles north of Church- ill. Man., to bring out the body of Harvey W. Halbert. Toronto met- eorologist in charge of the Can- ada-U.S. weather station there. He had been posted to Resolute last April.

The meeting opened with a call to service, followed by prayer. The scripture lesson was taken from Isaiah 6th chapter. and Mrs. Frank Vessey gave the reading. "A Thrill- ing Appeal". Mrs. Milton Veuey gave "Francis Willard Day" and Mrs. Elmer Brown one on the "Lord's Day Observance". Hymn. "Rescue the Perishing" was sung. and minutes of the meeting were read and approved. followed by roll call.

IDMONTON, Feb. 22-(CP)- un. William Aberhart, widow ol the am social credit Premier. at a private ceremony Wednesday night officially opened the Aber- hart Memorial Banatorium on the University of Alberta campus here.
The 33,000,000: building is as- claimed one of the most. modern hospitals in North America. It was constructed in HIHDD!'y of the late William Aberhart. Premier of Al- berta from 1935 until his death in 1943.

TORONTO. Feb. 22 - (CP) - Actors from western Canada have leading roles in "Socrates", I Canadian-written drama which opened Friday night in the Royal Ontario Museum Theatre.
Written by Lister Sinclair. To- ronto playwright. ”Socratca" will run for a week. It 1: the third production of .l.upiter Theatre, youngest of Toronto's several stage groups.
The title role of Socrates will ti. played by Frank Peddie. vet- eran Toronto stage and radio actor. Aristophanes, his friend, will be Paul Klig-man of Winni- peg. who made his name in Van- couver some years ago where he played with Theatre Under the Stais.
