TORONTO (CP)—Frank Ma- hovlich. the league’s leading goal scorer. took over the point- scoring lead Wednesday night as he led Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-4 victory over Detroit Red Wings and into a tie for first place in the National Hoc- key League.

Mahovlich scored one goal and assisted on three others as Leafs came from behind a 2-0 first-period deficit in their sec- ond game against Wings in two nights. Detroit won 2~1 at home Tuesday night.

But the Leaf left winger's per- formance would have been to no avail had it not been for. a couple of key saves by Toronto goaltender Johnny Bower in the last two minutes of play. He was especially sharp on a hard shot by Parker MacDonald. the Sydney, N.S. native.
