Concert Review

Mae Moore & Spirit of the West Review by a CIMN Management type

Wow. I'll admit that I’m probably a little biased, as I’ve been a fan for years, but Spirit of the West was incredible. The energy the band seemed to ooze, combined with competent musicianship and sharp lyrics made the evening memorable. There can be very little doubt that Spirit of the West is primarily

a crowd-pleasing or live band. The music the band performed was mostly from their last album Save This House (1990) with a few tunes from the last two albums before that Labour Day (1988) and Tripping Up the Stairs (1986). The show started for Spirit of the West with "Nature Land" from Tripping... from Labour Day they belted out "Cinema of Pain" and perhaps their best song yet "Political’. Most of the tunes from Save this House were played and proved to be pretty crowd-pleasing. On an acknowledgly negative note though, I have heard some people complaining that they didn’t really like Spirit of the West. I can’t help but feel that if these people might have been better off if they’d known that Spirit of the West, was not a rock n’roll band and as danceable as most rock bands.
