. DUBLIN, Aug. 25.—"I feel that I gm going home." said Gene Tun- my. retired heavyweight champion oi the worldrua he stood chatting on the deck oi the mail-boat Holy- head at Kingstown. last evening. Whenever, anyone tried to get him to talk about himself and America. he switched to questions about Ireland. its system oi government, ltellleoplialand the conditions in the western part oi the Island. He seemed absorbed by the country.

As the vessel approached Ireland. Tunney strained his eyes to get a first glimpse oi land, gave an ex- clamation of delight as Wicklow and Dublin came into view. with the coast township nestling at their feet.

GOING HOME

"Yes," he repeated, "I feel that I am going home, realizing one oi the greatest ambitions of my life in vis- iting my homeland and my people." Tunney said he was vary sorry that he could not stay a long time just now, but that he would come again and bring his mother with him to see her old home in Mayo.

"She is too ill to travel at this time and I will postpone my visit to Mayo until she can come. She is as anxious to see it as I am."

Only once did he break his silence about boxing. When asked if he would give an exhibition in Dublin, he replied flrrnly but quietly, "No, I'm finished with the game. I'll never put the gloves on in public again."

Although Tunney emphasized that he disliked public demonstrations. a great crowd cheered him at Holy- hcarl, and at Dunlagohaire the St. Josephspipers’ band from Manch- ester played Irish ails as he came ashore and v headed a procession through the vast throngs to the mo- tor cars.

At a reception in the hotel last evening. which preceded a private dinner for him. he was presented to the members of the Tallteann Coun- cil. The crowd outside the hotel greeted him in great shouts of wel- come.
