Let this be an objective look at Speech Night, which was held on Monday Feb. 16. Based on winners and losers from the past years, we can point out several shortcom— ings which took place. Fir- 3t, among the Presindential candidates, Derek Key seemed intelligent, articulate and well versed in the crowd pl— easing aspect of student ap— athy. Alison Ann also came across very well except that she remained somewhat tight— lipped for most of the night which really should have worked to her advantage. . But outside factors in favor of Derek couldn't be over- come. For V.P., Mike Harts—

has nothing to do with att- racting votes). By contrast, our new V.P., Paul Currie, said that he didn't know much about the job and that he didn't even have an inkling of what Fed- erations and Committees were about, but that if he were elected he'd work hard and do his best. BINGO. Maybe it's the sincere approach. Terry Parsons stuck wisely close to the vest, somewhere in between the other two. The treasurer race was a toss up. Both Mike Clow and Jeanette MacAulay sounded sincere and intelligent. Neither had the charisma or natural charm of a Rick Huych or Tom Heywood. Clow got the edge (even though he has short hair which pro— ves there's no discriminat— ion at UPEI) by using the
