Dear C.B.: As regards your dismay that this column doesn't | dispense “immediate practical solutions” to people's problems, can you point to any column that does?

There is, in fact, no earthly source - of - supply that parcels out effective help on that basis to individuals or family units. The deepest, most durable, most valuable help that any coun- sellor can give to a needful client is a quickened inner drive to help himself, and a sense of know-how in going about it.

What you are hoping for, it’ seems, is a packaged remedy, guaranteed “instant” and “total,” placed in your hands, to right whatever is wrong to your satisfaction, without your working any growth - changes in yourself to. bring the desired re- isults to pass. :

Though you allude to a sense ,0f kinship with the New York /matron’s culture - shock since living in Washington. evidently | you aren't fully awake to the implications of your particular maladjustment. }

In your case at least, the: shock stems from being sudden- | ly on - your - own in the civilian milieu. where old - fashioned self - reliant “git-up-and - git"! still (as always! makes the dif-! ference between expansive ex-| perience and social immobility.
