Sir Charles Tells the Government What Ought to be Done.

Orrawa, July 24—In tne House of Commons Saturday Sir Charles Tupper reviewed the Alaskan Boundary contro~ versy supporting the attitude of the Gov- ernment in maintaining the rights of Canad3.

After a careful examination of the whole question he had reached the con- clusion that the Government should take power at this session todo two things: Firs; to build an all-Canadian line of railway in~ to the Yukon; second to proclaim in the Yukon, laws relating tothe United States miners similar to these in force in the United Stayes regarding alien ownership of m‘nés.

Sir Wilfred Laurier said that he ap- preciated the spirit of Sir Charles, treat- ment of the case and thanked him for re- fraining from embarrassing the govern- ment in these difficult negotiations,

A CHILD'S FUNERAL,

Yesterday through the streete of our city wound atuperal procession, A fuueral procession is at all times a ead spectacle; but, when the funeral procession follows to the grave the body of a child, the sad- ness becomes intensified and the only relief to the pent up feelings of sorrow is to be found with the flow our tears. The little white coffia covered with tlowers, the pall borne by her school com~« p2nions, with dresses and veile of snowy whiteness, aod the draped horses preced- ed by her class mates, ciad in garments emblematic of the innocence of her own young spirit, gave unmistakable evidences that the frostsof death hed killed the budding flower even with the summer tun. On the 22ad day of Jun’,on the platform of the hall of the convent of Nc r Dame,E he! McGonnell, achild of eleven years, dan- ghter of Peter McGoonell,of the surveying steamer Gulnare, was as strong and as vigorous as any of the pupils; on the 22nd day of July, exactly one month from that night she died, At first there was hope for her speedy recovery. A few days proved to the physician that restoration to health was an _ impossibility and that death was only a matter of a week or two, She continued to grow worse;and on Saturday, at three o’clock, the breathed her last. Yesterday when the news of her death was announced, the children in crowds came to her father’s residence to take a last look, in death, at the face of their little compan on. Broken accents, aod sobs and sighs were heard on every hand. Sorrow, bhildlike and sircere, was in every line on every brow. St. Danstan’s Cathedral, where ihe funeral services were held, was well filled. Rev. Dr. Morrison, intoning the Liler:, the chor responding. The pallsbearera were, Ida Byrne, Winnie Grittich, Josie McAree, Georgie Smith, Clemie Clarken, Blanch Trainor.

The mourners preceding the hearse were Mable Duffv, Minnie MCourt, Mary Walsh, Amy Kelly, Anastatia Powse May McQuaid, Millie Steele, Ada Gillan, Gertie Fitzgerald,Mary Butler.

The services at the grave were impree- sive and much sympatby was expressed.
