Sr. Jouy’s, Que, March 24.—General Gascoigne arrived here this morning in connection with the recént case of mutiny of the attached men of St. John’s military school. The sentence of the court mar- tial was announced to be the reduction to the ranks ef six non-commissioned offic- ers arrested and eighty days’ imprison- ment, with hard labor, but after consider- ation the General concluded to remit the latter part of the sentence, and simply re - duce the pon commissioned men to the ranks,
The Cuban Rebellion. Havana, March 23.—In spite of denials from the insurgent forces, five Spanish soldiers affirm that Quintin Buerara, the Spanish leader, d ied from the wounds he received in a recent engagement with gov- ernment forces. Major Moncalia at Hayo Colorado, province of Havana, has had a skirmish with the insurgents, who lost five men killed. Col. Martin, in Sancti Spiritus, district of the province of Santa Clara, bad a brush with the enemy, killed five insurgents and captured several pris oners and a quantity of baggage. Congress and Cuba,
Wasutnctoy, March 24.—Although the main Cuban resolutions have been com- mitted iu conference, the subjeet came up incidentally on Mr. Hill’s resolutions for the forbible occupation of the island of Cuba, in order to aid the Cubans in secur- ing local self-government. Mr. Mills spoke for two hours in support of the resolution. He was unsparing in his arraignment of General Weyler as an “‘atrocious scoun- drel and villain,” and in his recital of Spain’s bloody record in the old and the new world. ,Mr. Morgan also spoke briefly in farther support of the Cuban resolu- tions. Mr. Hill’s resolutions went to the calendars after the speeches,

The National Council of Women of Halifax have collected over two thousand dollars for the Armenian fund and have forwarded the amount to Miss Clara Bar- ton, of the Red Cross Society, for distribu- tion,
The member of parliament who acts as sessional correspondent for Mr. Laurier’s home organ, L’Electeur, says that Mr. Fremont, member for Quebec county, will? without doubt, withdraw from the Liberal party.
Efforts are being made by several Phila- delphia and New York publishers to in- duce murder H. H. Holmes to make a full confession and to tell the story of his life. One New York publisher began with an offer of $1,000 for a truthful and detailed story of his criminal career and gradually increased it to $5,000, because of the in- difference of the condemned man. While Holmes was consideriag this last propos- ition a rival New York newspaper offered him $7,500 for the same thing. It is not known whether he has accepted the offer, but he has been doing a good deal of writ, ing lately, the character of which he has concealed.
