Bia Bazaar Receipts at N’rip.—At a bazaar held in St. John, N’fid, for the purpese of raising funds in aid of a school for the Christian Brothers, the extrsordinary sum of | $15,000 (eighteen thousand dollars) was reai- ized. At one table alone, that presided over by the lady of Robert Kent, M. H. A., the munificent smount of $5,000 (five thousand dollars) were realized.

Queen’s Wharf, last evening, a watchman on one of the vessels peretived a woman walkin

to and fro. In her arms she carried a chil

snugly rapped up in a shawl. Her movements excited his suspicion, andin the darkness he drew near in order to detect her inten- tions. Once she walked to one side of the wharf and looked over, thence she crossed to the opposite side and examined the waters below. Again turning she walked to the head and leaned over it a few moments apparently contemplating suicide, or the drowning of

her child. The watchman called to and then appreached her. She did not speak but a few indistinct words, He, think-

ing she wes unsafe alone, gave her in charge ef the police. Her name is Davis. She came from Bosten last summer, and has since been tramping through the country, depending on the charity ef the people. Having no friends in the city, or no money, she could not get shelter or food, and she wandered to the wharf in a melancholy frame of mind, with, if we may judge, serious intentions. Her child —fifteen months old—was taken in charge by Mr. Merchant, watchman, and the Magistrate will endeavor to have her admitted to the Government Poor House.
