Mr. George Rogers (above). co- owner of Rogers Hardware store. foiled a burglar in his attempt to steal goods from his hardware es- tablishment about 10 o'clock last night and almost single handedly captured the thief in his attempted getaway.

The slight business man and his wife were working in the office on the ground floor of the store when they heard the burglar moviiig upstairs. Mr. Rogers immediately ran into the shop. grabbed a shot gun off the sheif,loaded it and pro- ceedul up the steps.

He met. the burly. six-foot bur- glar on the stairs and backed him up the steps. At the top he got be- hind hla man and marched him down. But the burglar was not giving up without a breakaway ef- fort and when he reached the bot- tom. he bolted into the front room of the shop.

He ran towards the door faofng Grafton Stroei: and jumped through the glass plate. Mr. Rogers laid the gun aside, jumped throiilh the broken glass, and pursued him down the street. The fleet footed business man overtook tho flee- ing man by the Prince Edward Theatre and with a low tackle brought his man to the ground.

The alleged burglar broke free again and again Mr. Rogers gave chase. He caught the man in front of the Unemployment Insurance Office and this time aided by James Mt-Tague. son of Police Sgt. Ernest McT:rgue, overcame the burglar.

Senator Roebuck spurred debate by charging that during the last. war the Progressive Conservative Party attempted to make voluntary enlistment fail so conscription would be necessary. This brought denials from Progressive conser- vative senators. and a personal exchange with senator R. 13. Homer (P0-Saskatchewan).

Nephew Of King Sells Estate To Pay Taxes

nephew of the King, today started selling off one-third of his ancest- ral estate at auction to pay inher- itance taxes.

Most of the happy buyers were his old tenants-farmers and trades people. The vast rural estate near Leeds. including farms. houses. cottages and a post-office and tav- ern in one village. for decades has been owned by the Harewood fam- liy.

HALIFAX, June 20-(CP)--The Canadian Society for the Study of Allergy was told by Dr. E. H. Walton of Winnipeg here today that many simple drugs, includ- ing aspirin. are capable of pro- ducing severe allergic reactions.

The Winnipeg doctor. reading from A paper frere Dr. H. W. Bottomley and himself. said although the num- ber of cases of aspirin sensitiv- ity was small in proportion to the number of H5. users. the effects W!'rn "so striking and oftimea dangerous." that physicians should be familiar with its character.

The paper termed aspirin al- lergy "one of the most common and perhaps most serious" forms of drug allergy. The most fre- quent symptom of aspirin allergy is asthma.

A review of 830 cases of asthma conducted at the Winni- pelz clinlelhad yielded 22 cases of definite aspirin sensitivity. Of these five were classed as "very severe,"

Aspirin sensitivity. Dr. Walton said. appeared to be twice as fre- quent in women as in men. The condition was more apt to be no- ticed in hospital patients because medications were recorded and sudden condition changes noted.

The paper said that aspirin may not beneficially in some cases of asthma. "It has long been known that nspirln may act beneficially in some asthma cases and the drug has been strongly recom- mended for therapeutic use."

James Gilbert of souris, who es- the King's County Jail at Georgetown on the early morning of June 11 was captured and returned to the jail early yea- terday morning. Royal Canadian Mounted Police made the capture. assisted by a trained dog from the Moncton Detachment.

Gilbert was captured in the woods near Rollo Bay Church about 15 minutes before midnight Monday night. He was back in at cell in-Georgetown about 1 o'clock.
