As most of you have probably noticed by now, most of that which was contained in this column last‘week was, very

simply, untrue. I feel that I owe you, not simply an apology, but also an explanation. I wrote the article while at the height of a great deal of emotion and disgust. one article was completed and tumed in for typing just before the deadline for nominations; hence

my failure to mention the appointment by acclamation of Cathy Walsh as Secretary, and the candidacy of Patricia Rossiter for Vioe—Presié dent. I apologize to both these young ladies for my error, and, in addition, congratulate them for their success. (In case, you haven't heard, Patricia defeated Emmanuel Amobi in the race for Vice-President — during a completely legitimate and fairly-run election, I might add.) Upon learning of the addition of these two names to our candidacy roster, I was momentarily cheered. That is until the party that evening.

I am the first to admit that the fault may have been ours — through insufficient publicity, our choice of an incon— venient date, etc. 'Ihese are all excuses that seem

‘ to reach my ears after any of our flops and this one was no exception. Nevertheless, I refuse to accept, on behalf of the Executive, the entire blame for these fiascos. If they haven't been v everything you'd hoped, look to yourselves - you were supposed to be the guests'Of honour. What-

ever the reason, I for one am tired of trying. If I have anything to say about it, our Executive will simply not host another party. If they feel they can make a go of it, the new Executive is welcate to try - and I sincerely wish them luck. 'lhey're going to need it.

Now, permit me to continue this bright and cheery dialogue with another happy thought. 'va0 issues ago, this paper carried an article concerning the Business Society, written by Emmanuel Amnbi, in his regular feature, "Matters of the deent". Now, ever since the inceptim of this column, there have been rumblings, but this time they have been directed towards us, and I feel something needs to be said. Apparently some "cmcerned souls", among them sate members of last

upset by all the recogni— tion which we have received this year, both through Emmanuel's column and, I assure, through this one. Allow me to

int out - for one thing, a colurm like mine did not exist last year, in any form. Secondly,

Emmanuel did not attend U.P.E.I. last year, so I find it difficult to see how he could have praised your accomplishments without having seen them.‘ In addition, please allow me to point out that neither myself, nor any member of my Executive in any way con- vinced Emmanuel to write the article in the first place, in fact we were a— gainst it. _ . From the remarks that I've heard, you seem to feel that the afore- mentioned praise is unwarranted. I'm sorry you -feel this way but I also feel you are being totally unfair. Granted, everything that we have attempted has not been a total success — particul— arly the parties. Last year, you had two or three such affairs, always well attended - great, congratulations! But, although it's simple to say, "you had ' it easier", you were working with a smaller enrolment, newly united in a new building with a brand new 'esprit de corps' . This year we

faced a larger student

body, a great number of Wham took the building for granted; hence a lot of the spirit disappeared.

We spent a good deal of our time and energy trying to revive this spirit. True, we were not totally successful, but

that doesn't mean we didn't

try.

It is also true that we handled the sale of jackets, and the Business- man's Dinner in much the same way that you did last year. Nevertheless it was us, not you, who actually did the legwork and made the sales this

year . Please don' t misunderstand

me- I am the first to ad- mit that you all did a great job last year, par— ticularly in that you started with nothing and got everything going.

I'm just sorry that you feel that praise of us is nec— essarily criticism of you and your efforts. I'm equally sorry if you

feel that myself or anyone on my Executive has been trying to "one-up" you on everything that you ac- complished.

As I have already mentioned before in this colurm, I felt that our ability to function at a maidmum was hampered by the fact that a majority of our Executive was made up of Seniors. This meant that around Policy

time, a good deal of the burden fell on the

yomger members of the group. True, we didn't work wonders, but we got the job done, which is all that should have been expected of us at the time of our election.

As must be evident to everyone by this time, I have become extremely disillusioned with the Business Society and my work conneCted with it. I feel therefore that I can no longer serve any useful purpose through this coluIm. Unless I should become re-inspired, this Hwill be the last article. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who did get involved — who played on intramural teams, bought jackets, sold and purchased tickets, and made up the "old faithful" crowd at the parties.
