FIRST SALVER SHOOT

‘The York Club opened their Sal- ver Shooting on Wednesday after- noon under very good conditions and with a large number of sports ready for the word, 4

It was unfortunate that Sum- merside held their shoot the same date but as Solver dates had been fixed, the club could not avoid it. This shoot started the series for the Grand Aggregate ‘rrophy as well as the Salvcr but next Saturday the 27th will begin the Three Day Ag- gregate so that there is yet time for more to enter and win, it is of course the second for the solver also.

lt was very encouraging to see so many taking part and especially in welcome some old timers who had not been shooting for almost forty years.

There are four Sslver competi- tors very closely grouped in this shoot and some very near that may yet easily spring a surprise.

In the Aggregate there are two particularly who will wage a battle royal for the lead.

The club is especially interested

markers have generously donated their Wednesday's pay toward pro- viding special prizes for them.

West Covehead Rifle Shoot

‘The West Covehead Rifle Club held the first shoot on the salver on Saturday, the 20th.

There was a very good attend- ance, Mr, W. R. Seaman and Mr. Vernon Proude were high with 88 points each. Mr. Seaman had the better score at 600 yards.

Our old friend Mr. Berrigan had the highest score at 600 yards, making 32 points. We have some promising young shots, but Joe will keep them stepping yet. Our next shoot on solver will be Saturday, 27th, at l o'clock. We hope in have a good crowd. Following are scores:

- A trio composed of William Ulh- rich, DnLeon Plscullle and Edna Newcomer were prepared to leave New York tomorrow on a non-stop flight to Rome by way of Florence. Miss Newcomer planned to make a parachute Jump at Florence in commemoration of Florence Night- ingale, the nurse.

Solvers. a scion of the old Vik- ings and Petersen, a veteran radio eXpert, were flying a huge sesqui- plane. They planned to refuel here and get swsy at dawn tomorrow.

The Lee-Bochkon plane, named the "Green Mountain Boy," bore the identification number NR. 7678. It was painted red and carried the inscrpition "Barre-Montpelier, the Finite center of the world." Lee and Bochkon plannecrto put aboard 460 gallons of gasoline here. They figured that would be sufficient for about 4,000 miles or 35 hours fly- ing time. Their objective, Kjellsr Field, Oslo, is 8,150 miles from this port.

Like Solberg and Petersen, Leo and Bochkon planned a quick get- away from Harbor Grace. They in- tended to obtain weather reports from Hubert Huntington, navigat- or, who was their adviscr at the Sarra-tloutpelier airport and who remained at that place. Hutchin- son's "flying family" left New York aboard a Sikorsky amphibian, the "City of Richmond," intent upon making the flight to London by easy stages. Unless woe-thee condi- tions were against them, they planned hops on consecutive days from Saint John to Labrador, to Greenland, thence to Iceland and finally to London. The distance was estimated at 4,300 miles.

Hutchinson's flight was under- taken with the intention of demon- strating the safety of trans-Atlan- tic flying over the airmail routs charted by the government.

Lee was pilot-commander with Bochkon acting as co-pilot. Lee, who is only 34 years of age, was formerly a bsrnstormnig pilot es- sociated with the late “Speed" Holman in commercial flying in the west. He has never done any ocean flying.
