Meeting at Cumberland.

Pursuant to public notice a large number of the electors of Lot 65 assembled at Cumberland School on Saturday, 22nd insi., for the purpose of nominating a can- didate to contest the coming election in conjunction with D. McKay, Esq.

Un motion, Mr. M. Doyle was appointed Chairman, and the undersigned Secretary. The object of the meeting having been ex- plained by the chairman, A. C. Shaw took the floor,»nd in a lengthy address explained and approved of the policy of the Govern- wont,

He was followed by M. W. Murphy, E. Foley and others, also in support of the Sullivan administration; and by John Me- Millan in support of the Opposition.

The following resolution, moved by M. W. Murphy, seconded by E. Foley and R. Griffin was then passed :—

Whereas, in the opinion of this meeting, the Government have carefully, economicaliy and judiciously managed the business of the Province, and the public wants of this } is- trict have been liberally attended to in roads, bridges, wharves, &c.; and

Whereas, it is in the best interest of this District to nominate a farmer whose interests are identical with our own, to represent us in the House of Assembly ;

Therefore Resolved, that Alex. C. Shaw be nominated as our candidate in conjunction with D. MeKay, Esq , and that we do recem meud him te the suffrages of our fellow farm ers in the 2nd District
