F Chandler. Jaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Chandler was chosen by the Ro- tary Club at their regudar lunch- eon meeting in the Charlottetown Hotel yesterday. to represent them at the annual Canadian youth citizenship conference in Ottawa next summer.

The event is sponsored each year by the Rotary Club of Ottawa and is attended by localLv chosen boys and girls and financed in part by the home town club. A variety of activities at Ottawa are arranged for by the club there.

Four club directors. each in turn. explained in detail to the members. the various functions of

the committees coming under their direct supervision. Frank Curtis dealt with club service.

Austin Scales spoke on vocational aervice, Bob Parent on commun- ity service and George Fisher on international service.

An interesting point was stress- ed by Dr. Fisher when speaking of the fourth object of Rotary dealing with the advancement of international understanding which was framed by Don MacRae of the Halifax Club and a native of P. E. Island.

The Rotary Foundation. started with a gifi of 526.50 by a Missouri club in i918 now totals 3 and a half million dollars. 601 select col- lege students from 57 countries have attended colleges in coun- tries'other than their own. under the project. .

Rotary's world membership is 396.000 in 8.431 clubs in 89 coun- tries. There are 305 clubs in Can- Ida.

Percy Turner introduced the speakers and Edwin Johnstone thanked them for the interesting points in Rotary so fully dealt with.

Guests present were Neil A. Matheson. M.P.. W. F. Alan Stew- art. Dennis lnwood and Rotarian Meyer MacKerizle.

Beaverbrook Provides For Reiired Clergy

Retired Presbyterian Ministers and widows of the Presbyterian Ministers living in Prince Edward Island will benefit from the gen- erosity of Lord Beaverbrook.

It was made known today by lie Rev. E. H. Bean of Kensing- ton. Clerk of the Synod of the Maritime Provinces of the Pres- byterian Church. that Lord Beaver- hrook has set up a fund from which a pension will be made available for retired ministers and widows of ministers on the Is- land. Lord Beaverbrook has mani- fested interest in the work of the Presbyterian Church in Newcastle. N. B.. where his father was for many years a minister, and the town where Lord Beaverbrook went his boyhood days.

It is typical of His Lordship Ital he should look for a means of being of greater service to the church which his father. the Rev. William Altken served so faithfully. Thus came into being the pres- ent plsn of assisting retired min- isters and widows of ministers which will apply in those of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as well as to Prince Edward Island.

Archbishop Berry Recalls Achievements Of Diocese

High tribute to the Diocese of Charlottetown was paid by His Grace Archbishop Berry of Hal- ifax in the course of an eloquent sermon, following his installation of Bishop MacEachern at St. Dunstan's Basilica last evening.

”Canada Packers are to be commended upon bringing in feeder steers." said Mr. Baker, "it will give the farmers a chance to see what can be done. but I don't think the weight in- creases will be what was antici- pated. at least until the cattle become climatized to this part of the country."
