When everything has been said it develops that Canada hasafair number of fine foxcs. The coun- try contains a sufficient nucleus of these to improve the national quality in arcomparatively short time. have taken the view that sales of their stock only build competition against themselves. The error of this view is clearly shown in the present situation. If a. larger num- ber of fincr foxes were available, all the producers of these would have a better market. In fact the world never had a keenez- appe- tite for fine silver foxes than at the present time. Thc markets are hungry for such goods and the production of them will never be large enough to hurt the breed- crs who have produced the desir- able types.

Fox ranchers in Wcstcm Can- ada. have the most favorable feed conditions 1n the world. They have the finest climate for the do velopmcnt of fur. texture and color. About eighty per ccnt of western ranchers, however. need better foundation stock. By sub- stituting quality for quantity they

This was paid by Marshall Field & Company, thc big departmental store in Chicago and ivas no doubt just an ad‘: tising stunt. N,B., a grandson of one of the founders of the fox in- dustry—Robert Oulton-which giv- cs more information regarding the white-ringed foxes being bred by Colpitts and Ollie McNeill. Mr. Oulton writcsz-"No doubt you will be surprised to hear from me. I read and enjoy your fox notesand l also your horse notes on Satur-I days and they sure are interest- ing to me. It 1s in regard to your fox notes that I take the liberty now to write you. You have quite often ruentioncd something about the foxes with prominent; white markings and as I had some ex-_ perience and handled some ofthat kind. I pass 011 to you informat- ion that can be trcrlflcd by the Record Office at Ottawa.

“In 1926 I was sent to Alberta by the Live Stock Branch and Rec- ord Office to do inspection work there. I visited a fox farm con- ducted by two Russians. whoowp- ed five or six pairs each of regis- tered foxes. Bctwcen them they had b"tu'con 50 and G0 pups. In one of the ranches I found 8 or 10 pups that had \\'11itc collars, white hhid legs to the hock. as well as prominent xvhitc on abdominal re- gions. One of thcsc pups had thc collar and a stripe ran up from the nccl: bctwccn the cars and tapered out bctu/eon the eyes. It started again undcr the muzzle and down between the fore-legs tc taper out about the abdomen. It was about the strangest sight 111 the fox line I have ever seen in my travels.

"Although they were the best developed and about the best fur- red pups I saw out there, I had to "arroxv-mark" them. explaining to the owner that he must pclt those 111 order to maintain regis- tration. He is a. chap that likcs to take a chance. so he went out and bought all the stock he could got, but up until 1930 he had no great success with them.

"It was certainly interesting news to me to learn that foxes of the variety mentioned above are now bringing such prices as $460 in New York and $170 in London."

LONDON, April 8 -— Of all the prophetic incidents associated with English Coronnllons, one of the best known is that of the crown- ing of Charles I, in 1625, when the left wing of the dove on the sceptre broke off during the ceremony. It was hardly surprising-that in this mishap the superstitious saw an omen of the King's fate at the book 24 years later. _

This was perhaps the most dis- mal coronation ceremony 1n Eng- lish history. Everything seemed to go wrong and each unfortunate event was taken as a warninl; 0f coming disaster.

At first there could be no coron-

ation because of the Great Plague‘ in London. Then the King's barge was run aground. There was a feud ; raging within the Chapel of West- 1 minster. an unseemly struggle be-l tween Archbishop laud and Dean‘ Williams as to who would officiatc. l the former carrying the day.

When the wing of the dove on the Confessors sceptre was broken another of gold was substituted un- known to the King, and this was the first infringement of the old regalia.

The tuxt selected by the Bishop of Carlisle who preached the Coro- nation sermon—he died soon after- wards of jaundice-was regarded by many as more appropriate for a fu- neral. "I will give thee a crown of life." The critics of the day had much to say about it,
