Tue bricklayers began work on the 5th on the upper portion of the Woodside Refinery, Halifax. A heighth of some forty feet has been boarded in, with windows letting in day- light. Inside this the men will work. The result will be that the refinery will be in operation six months sooner than it otherwise would, anda iarge number of bricklayers will be given work during the winter months—a very unusual thing in Halifax. All others have received notice from the Alliance that unless they close they will immediately be dealt with.

Tue stockholders of the Keely Motor Company met in Philadelphia, on the Ist inst., and adjourned to meet at the call of the chair. This was in accordance with a suggestion from Mr. Keely, who says at the end of this month everything will be in readi- ness fora public exhibition of the motor. President Edward J. Randall and Treasurer F. P. Green, of New York, visited the wor|- shop on the Ist iast., and reported to the meeting that all the mechanical portion of the motor had been completed, They spoke very favorably of the prospects for an exhibit, and said they beljeved that the world would saon see grand results from the vousummation of Mr. Keely’s invention.

Kiighway Robbery.

Gatveston, Feb. 6. The incoming stage from Abilene was stopped on the road and the mails and passengers robbed, Rivers Flooding. PrirrssurG, Feb. 6. The rivers at this point passed the range line last night, and at noon to-day had reached thirty-one feet six inches, the highest stage since 1852. Despatches from the headquarters of both rivers report the water still rising, while here it is creeping up into the streets at the rate of | eight inches per hour. Miles of property in this city on the south side, and in Alleghany, are submerged, and hundreds of families haye been compelled to vacate their houses.
