JOHN DOUGLAS YOUNKER

There passed away at his home in North Wiltshire on June 30th John Douglas Younker. Douglas as he was known to many was born at Loyalists, P.E.IIsland on Christmas Day, 1894, son of the late John A. Younker and his wife, Bethesda Abbott Younker.

Although not in the best of health for the past while, his passing .came a: a shock to re- latives and friends who thoug him improving, as he was able be out every day, but his wife, who was his constant companion, was advised that his condition was critical, and many were her lonely hours of constant ‘vig-il, trying indeed were these days and nights.

In the early hours of June 28th he suffered a severe stroke, his doctor was immediately summon ed and all that was possible to do, was done. In the early hours of Monday he lapsed into uncon- sciousness, andgpassed away in the afternoon with his wife and only sister at his side.

Death had no fears for this man, he often spoke of having made his peace with the Lord, and was ready “‘to go” he greatly enjoyed the visits of the Rev. C. R. Moase, whom he recognized on his visit the day before he

Mr. Younkcr was. a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boston, Mass, (1928), the Tan- ton L.0.L. of Brookfield, P.E.I. and held a Journeymans carpen- ter’s certificate (Alberta). He was a trophy winner in bowling and an enthusiastic curler. Not a man given to public life, but in many parts of this Island, as well as Boston, Mass, and various places in Alberta, many lovely homes and other buildings, and many fine jobs were done under his skillful hands.

When a young man he went to Western Canada, where he an listed in the Alberta Regiment, and from Calgary he went over- seas, after his return he married Miss Sadie M. MacDonald of BrookIfield, in 1921. While re- siding in the U.S.A. she passed away in 1927. He rdurned to P. E.I. with his two sons, Ira, who resides in Central Royalty and Harry, living in Parkd-ale.

The funeral, one of the largest seen' in this community, was held from his late residence on Wed- nesday after-own, July 2nd. The services at the home and grave conducted by the Reverend R.A. Patterson. The hymn “Life’s Rail way To Heaven," was sung by Mr. Murdock MacLeod. The North Wiltshire United Church Choir, assisted by Mr. Walter Shaw, led in the singing the hymns “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Holy Father Cheer Our Way."

OTTAWA (CIP) —— Canada ad mitted 67,744 immigrants in the. first half of this year compared with 182,416 in the same period last year. to ~ Biggest group. according to an announcement Tuesday from the immigration department, wa s destined for manufacturing and ' mechanical work. This totalled 10,806.
