The Journal and Advertiser has the following special despatch from Loren- zo Marquez: “Hundreds of Boers, with their families, are fleeing from the country of their birth to begin life again insome other country. Mest ot these have America as their ulti- mate destination The refugees are bot paupers In any sense, They are taking passage in French and German ships, and are willing to pay for the best accommodations. Speciai trains are engaged to meet the ships of Mar- seilles, which is the their first steoping place in their search for new fortunes. Two German ships left Lorenso Mar- quez last week, carrying 1,200 Boers. They were closely foilowed by two French ships with 950 souls from the Transvaal, mostly women and chidren. Al! of these belonged to the better class of Boers, and all were bound tor Holland. They do not say where they will go afterward. ‘We do not know,’ they say of the matter, ‘but we think we should be happier in America than elsewhere, and we may establish our homes there.’ ”

**In the Province of Prince Edward Island,if any person de- sires to vote, whose right to vote is objected to on the ground of want of qualification, and if a candidate or any agent of a can- didate or (in the absence of such agent) any elector acting in the interest of a candidate, objects in the presence of the elector, the deputy returning off- cre in addition to placing his initials on the back of tMe ballot paper, as provided by section 70, shall also place on, the back thereof a number corresponding to that placed opposite the voter's name on the poll book.

The foliowing is not a war story, but it is a good one: A lady in Dub- lin Oa getting up one morning, heard a most peculiar noise in the pantry. She was astonished to find that a snake had its head and part of its
ody through the handle of a chira jug. Both sides of the snake—that is the portion on each side of the handle —were bulging out. Then she dis- cerned what had happened. Some eggs had been lying on the shelf, and the snake, after having swallowed one, had crawled partly through the handle of the jug—that is as faras the swal- lowed eggs would allow—in order to get at another which it had swallowed.

either forward or backward through the handle! The lady was just going to call her husband, when the reptile gave a desperate wriggle, and in doing so fell on the floor witha bang, handle and all. But the fail broke both the eggs in its ivside, and, taking advantage of its release from the handle, it was out in the garden before ou could say “Ware”!
