Juno Shipments Via Bordon Ferry l" -

Business of the Province, both in imparts no exports via the Northumberland Strait route, show- ed e decrease last month as com- pared to June. i847. the revert from the Superintendent's Office, Island Division, Canadian National Railways. reveals.

Care of freight brought to the Province from Tormentine last month totalled 1,008 as compared to 1.61s in June of last year, s decrease of B0 care. In exports, 562 cars went to the mainland via Borden last month as compared to B8B in June, 1947, or a decrease of 257 oars. _

Illgures showing the quantities of most commodities imported last month have little or no signifi- cance when compared with those showing the amounts of similar products imported for the corre- sponding period one year ego. 211 cars of flour ca-me over last month as compared to 280 in June of 1947; 1B7 cars ofjertililer to 15B in June, 1047- b4 cars of lumber 1:057; and I41 care of coal u. i .

But there were some inerbaees. Bugs/r jumped from 11 can in June of 1947 to 19 cars lest month and while no cars of canned goods came over in June oi last year. 1b cars were brought over last month. A considerable portion of those 15 cars was made up of canned grape juice and apple Juice-fruit juices which are now selling st priced much reduced from those prevail- ing some months ego. In keeping with the present building boom throughout the Province, 21 cars of cement were imported last month. No cars of this important building material reached the Province by the ‘Pormentine-Bor- den route 1n June of last year.

Practically all exports showed decreases for last month as com- pared to June. 1947. frhe decided drop in potato exports of last month-all cars to 6B0 in J1me. IBM-merely means, howeverl that the Railway was successful during lest March, April. and May in moving all potatoes according to shipper demand so that there were but relatively few potatoes left for ‘export by the first of June.

CADETS AT N. B. CAMP-A bri- gade of army cadets left Char- lottetown Saturday morning bound for Camp Utopia on the outskirts of Saint John, N. B. They will be Joined at Utopia by hundreds of other army cadets from Ill over the Maritimes. Included in the group are two Queen Square School teachers. Messrs. J. W. Croken and Thomas Bradley. Style Show At Charlottetown Hotel Tonight

The latest fashions in furs will be modelled tonight at the big Style Show eponaoredby the Inter- national Conference of 1H1: Breed- ers and conducted by‘ the Junior Ladies’ Aid of the Prince mrward Island Hcqrital.

Some 22 garments will be shown by seven Charlottetown models.

Many of the furs, ranging from full length mink coats to pearl platinum fox cape stole. have been especially fashioned for dislay and have been on show at Beale, Swita, erlsud, Toronto and Montreal.

One of the highlights of the show will be the modelling of a natural wild lhink coat valued at 80500.00. The coat has e four rippled back and shawl collar.

Proceeds of the style show and dance will go to the Prince Ed- ward Island Hospital. .

In its Guide column today the Provincial Council of the Associ- ation honors the memory of Mrs.

Mary E. McIntyre who has been celled to higher service in the early days of this lovely summer

month.

As we pen this brief tribute In a reminiscent mood. our thoughts go back down the years to the sum- imer of 1922. to e camp-site in Oorran Ban, where we _ find a happy group of young girls, known’ as the "Little Flower Club". en- joylng the delights of life in the

open. This was the first company of Girl Guides in the Province. and was the nucleus for the formation of several others during the fol- lowing years. organized under the leadership of the late Mrs. Mc- Intyre. It was in the early days of the Catholic Women's League in Prince Edward Island, when, full of energy and at the peak of her mental power, she gave of her services to the furthering of this worthy endeavor, realising to the fullest. its greet value as s. char- acter builder. with laws which stand for the highest ideals for God and Country. She had faith and vision in its possibilities and expansion, seeing in Guiding, a. glorious field for work on the part cf women who have the welfare of youth at heart. And we who are privileged to "Carry on" see grow- ing to fruition the seed of s great work planted by this pioneer worn- a.n. Her willingness "to help other people at all times" was further shown, when, during Guide Week in February, she contributed to the program by telling of the for- mation of the "First Guide Com- pany" on “the Island". to an inter- ested redio audience. Even though at that time she was feeling the weight of the years, she bravely escemplified the spirit embodied in the Guide Motto "Be Prepared." And when the summons came to lay aside the cares of this world and go up to Higher Service. she went to her eternal rest "sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust." We will remember her and the part she played in founding this good work; and if we are at times over-eager. and prone to be dis- appointed that greater progress is not being made. it is well to re- member that the tiny acorn does not spring into beauty like a reed which may easily be broken. but the great oak which it produces. may flourish for a thousand years.
