Former S. U. President Tracey Arsenault explains

Dear Student Union Council,

I respectfully and with great sadness submit my resignation as Student Union President. This decision is not one that was made quickly or easily. Rather, it is one that I have been pondering for several weeks.

The incidents of the past two weeks have been more than just a part of my life, they have consumed my life. The result has been major compromises in other areas of my life, most notably, academics. My feeling is that the honour ofholding a position such as that of Student Union President should compliment other aspects of one’s life. For me, this is no longer the case.

Admittedly, my reasons for resigning could be seen as selfish. In simple terms, the personal costs are beginning to far out- weigh the benefits. What has kept me from resigning up until this point is the commitment that I have made to the Student Body atU.P.E.I. WhatI have come to realize is that this same commitment is the one that is leading to my resignation. I must follow my heart and do what I believe is best for everyone involved -- the Student Body, the Student Union, Council, and myself.

My strongest desire is that our Council be able to move on and be productive. I wish the council the best of luck during the

remainder of their term.

TAMPERING WITH CIMN SPEAKER

CIMN is not broadcasting through the speaker located

there. The Pit is the only place on campus outside of th residences that U.P.E.I. student radio can be heard, but sine September, the radio has not been on.

S tudents who frequent the Pit may have noticed that

The reason for this is that, contrary to University policy maintenance and Marriott staff in the Pit have been turning of the speaker. This has happened repeatedly, despite forma reminders to the persons involved of the policy that the speake is CIMN’s exclusive property, and is only to be turned on and of by CIMN management.

As well, CIMN Station Manager Todd King has been the targ¢ of abusive telephone calls placed by one student upset that thi speaker was on. Apparently, the caller found it difficult to stud in the Pit, and blamed this on the CIMN broadcast.

CIMN does not have the resources to police the Pit speaker, Todd King is considering moving it to Blanchard Hall’s Loung¢ where residents have expressed a strong interest in having! installed. This, however, would mean that all non-resident would be deprived of easy, public access to their Student Radi Station, but that is what will happen unless this tampering wi! CIMN equipmentcan be stopped.
