MRS. J. GORDON DOUGLAS
0n the evening of August 9th» 1958. a beloved resident of Head of Hillsborough, Mrs. J. Gordon Douglas (nee Adeline Birtl. pas- sed peacefully to her eternal re- ward at the Prince Edward Is— land Hospital, Charlottetown.
Mrs. Douglas wos born at St. Patrick's Road on October let.. 1892, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Birt. She married J. Gordon Douglas in 1909 who predeceased her in August 1957.
Mrs. Douglas was an active and devoted member of the Presbyterian Church in Mount Stewart and was also an import- ant member of the church choir. She was a charter member of the Head of Hillsborough Wo- men's Institute. She will ever be remembered for her willingness to lend a helping hand in time of death, birth or sickness. A woman of true Christian princip- les, her life is best epitomized by verses 10 to 31 in Proverbs. chapter 31.
She leaves to mourn her pas— sing tlhree sons: Howard W., Charlottetown, Albion G, 5311181 bury, Maryland; J. Wallace, Charlottetown; and six daugh- ters: Mary. (Mrs. Merton Jar- dinel, Mount Stewart: Alice, (Mrs. Milton Rod-gersonl. Fan- ningbrook; Lola, (Mrs. Horace MacEwenl, Charlottetown; Jean Charlottetown; Ctatllerine, (Mrs. Cecil Jay), St. Petersburg, Florida: and Dorothy, (Mrs. Michael Doyle), Charlottetown. One daughter Ellie, (Mrs. Lin- nis (Jonclrey), predeceased her in 1937 and a son Oliver in 1957.
Two brothers and two sisters are left to mourn the loss of their beloved sister, namely: Benjamin, Mount SteWart. Ed- win, St. Patrick’s Road: Kath- erine, Mrs. William Murphy, Gorham, New Hampshire; and Emma, Mrs. Thomas 'I‘horp, Gorhlam. New Hampshire.
Thirty-two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of a lov- ing grandmother.
The largely attended funeral was held on August 12th, from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merton Jardine, to the Mount Stewart Presbyterian Church. The services were conducted by the Rev. Charles Townsley, as- sisted by the Rev. John Sheen. A favorite hymn of the deceas- ed. “In The Sweet Eye and Bye” was sung by the choir. The choir and congregation joined in sing- ing “Lead Kindly Light" and “The Lord's My Shepherd".
The pall bearers were all for- mer neighbours of the deceased: Messrs. Ralph Coffin, Harvey Douglas. Geddie Douglas, Louis Cameron. Frank Jardine and Francis Myers.
Interment was in the People’s Cemetery, Mount Stewart.
