During the past few weeks, I heard a lot of complaints about the Sunday night movie. As the chairman of the Movie Club, I would like to give you some explanations. First of all, I have to let you know that our club is facing two major problems, internal and external problems.
When I talk about the in— ternal problem, it does not mean that we have a problem within our club, but within our university. Many of us might notice that some of our fellow students do not bother to behave themselves and have never considered others. During the movie, instead of enjoying, they started making noises. From now on, I think I have to ask those who make noises to leave the theatre at once. If the same person gets caught twice, we have to ask him to stay away from our movie for the rest of the year. I hate to do that, but I have to.
Some people also criticized that our movies are moresthan two years old, because we have promised to bring movies in which are two years old or less. I have to say that some of our movies are two years old or less, for example, "The Nelson Affair" which was made in 1973. Besides "The Nelson Affair" there are more than three movies which are two years old or less. We do want to bring in the latest shows we can get, however we are facing an external problem. During the Orientation Week, we tried to show "Serpico" (This movie was shown in the Prince Edward Cinema after our Orientation Week), but the film company, Paramount Film Service Ltd. turned our order down. Their reason is, it had nct yet been shown in the Prince Edward Cinema. Miss Jean White, the 16mm Booker of that company said they have to give the film first to the Famous Players Theatres on the Island before they can rent it to us. I did protest against this, but they said they could do noth— ing about it, because Prince Edward Cinema is a bigger

a bigger customer to Paramount? The answer is, they make more money and could pay a higher rental price. We are a non- profit making club, there is no way we could pay them high- er prices. This year, the movies cost us close to
4,000 dollars, and the qual— ity did improve. In Order to bring in better movies, we need the support from Student Union and all the fellow students.

Nevertheless, I cannot go along with your particular ideology. Whether or not the Canadians were high-sticking Russians or that Russians were kicking Canadians re- mains irrelevant. What is more important and closer to the 'problem was the notorious in— ability of those in charge (the referees) of handling the action on the ice. So long as this calibre of reffing remains we can no doubt expect more incidents like those ex— hibited during the past Canada— Russia matches.
