This is a second in the series of articles dealing with the infamous soap opera, Another World. To- day's plot involves the
Randolphs -- next week will _
bring about the intro- duction of the Matthews.
At present John Randolph, distinguished attorney-at- law, is in the psychiatric ward under Dr. Zimmerman's supervision. Dr.
Zimmerman (who if you remember is also looking after Rachael Cory) has to determine when - if ever - John will be able to stand trial. In this particular trial John Randolph will not be the defendant's ’ lawyer but the defendant, standing accused of a messy murder involving his second wife's lover. 'Ib Recap. John Randolph was once upon a time married to
Pat Matthews whereupon she bore him 13mins, Michael and Mary Anne. As time passed the twins grew remarkably fast and under— went severe physical changes. While the twins blossomed so did Pat and John's marriage. "They were the perfect couple -— or so everyone thought. When Mary Anne — blonde hearty that she was — decided to move away and go to college, her mother Pat became greatly concerned for she was just recovering from the ordeal of getting Mary Anne out of grade 12 and realized Mary Anne lacked discipline. However handsome Chris Pierce,
Mary Anne's high school tutor told Pat he'd help her through college and help her he did. Hand—
some Chris and beautiful Mary Anne soon became an item. While Pat had her
reservations about the young man and encouraged
the relationship. Unfort- unately for Mary Anne, Chris was also a very demanding young man and in order to prevent the termination of their relationship, she succumbs to his demands. Fearing that she could be pregnant no less, she submits to
a doctor's examination, whereupon — much to Mary Anne's relief — Dr. Dave Gilcrest tells her that it is a false alarm — this time.
After vowing to her mother — who took the ordeal in stride and saved John the heartbreak by not telling him -
never to do this "sort of thing" again, Mary Anne finds‘herself back at
Dr. Gilcrest's office and instead of relief she finds herself drowning in grief as this time she is indeed pregnant. Mean— while Michael is also
going to college, studying fl
and training hard (he is a track star no less) , with some casual dating

all this he looks out for vulnerable Mary Anne for he dislikes Chris. After Mary Anne confronts hand— sare Chris with the latest, we are not entirely surprised to
discover he has skipped
town thus saving his Mary Anne, along with Michael, decide to go
away shopping — when in fact Mary Anne actually obtains an abortion.
GASP! Dr. ,Dave escorts Pat, who inevitably finds out, in hopes of stopping Mary Anne. But it is too late. When the family
and Dr. Dave return home, John has a few questions pending. .John, discovering what has happened, takes to the sauce and goes on a bad bender, blames Pat for not confidinq in him.

John is upset that poor Mary Anne had to go through the Ordeal without him. This and a not entirely innocent encounter John has with Barbara Weaver, .a' young attractive attorney in
his firm, causes the breakdown of Pat and
John's marriage, much-to the children's unhappi— ness. ' Pat divorces John since their marriage has beoate a void, and works _ for MacKenzie Cory. John in turn tries to piece his life together. By flIis , time the relationship that had developed between Pat and Dr. Dave has soured and they have split up. ,At,.this point Olive Gordon is introduced into the firm as a stenc— grapher of sorts, Olive, after obtaining a divorce from her husband Ray, sets a trap for the wealthy, unsuspecting and highly vulnerable John. ” Naturally John falls deep- ly in love with Olive and marries her much to the, disconcertion of Michael, Mary Anne and yes, even

Unfortunately for the new Mrs. Randolph she has difficulty inventing believable grounds for divorce. Evan, ' who is actually a gigolo ~ andintumtakm' gOlive.- for everything she's worthr devises a scheme
in which he intends to dispose" of John. . . . permanently. He tells Olive however that he is- planting a wcman in the house and Olive has to discover them together thus supplying believable grounds for divorce. All this occurS’ while efforts by Midlael, Mary Anne and
Pat to ttmart‘Olive's schemes go up in smoke.
Not only does the new marriage strain relations Mike and his father but it is with
" Olive's malicious help
that Mike's young marriage to Nbllyj‘rame fails. (It is interesting-to note that through inter-_ marriages Mike and Molly arelegally firstcwsins since Molly's uncle Steve married Mike's aunt Alice) 'Ihe evening Evan plans . to dispose of John proves disastrous. After Evan pulls a-gun on John there is a struggle in which Evan is shot. Olive ' arrives at the house in- tending to discover her husband with a woman but finds her lover's corpse ' instead. Stricken with grief, she hysterically accuses John of killing the only man she ever loved. John, realizing what Olive is saying, becomes deeply upset and the mental", strain proves too much. It i is at this point where we ' oin him back at the ;yd1iatric ward. Since 1e night of the killing, ohn has spoken but a few ords but has shed a lot E tears. Olive has been (1 a drunken stupor since 1er lover's death- Pat, ‘10 has professed her love . par John to Mary Anne, fears the situation hope- less as John refuses to defend himself by speaking.
