Mrs. Kier l-laihaway and Mr. Arthur smith, and at Hunter River they visited with Mrs. Smith's two brothers. and I sister in Mayfield. The last Sun- day they spent on P. E. Island, Mr Smith had the pleasure of play- ing the organ in the North Wilt- shim Church where he had been organist over 50 years ago. Mrs. Smith sang a solo, "Lead Kindly Light." of which special mention was made by the minister and others. On Monday evening previous to their departurf, their rel- atives and friends were entertained at the home oi their sister, the Bowman homestead. They left the following morning for their home in Saskatoon.

Polio cases Now Number Forty-Four

The number of polio cases in the Province now stands at 44 according to information released by Dr. 0. H. Curtis. Deputy Min- ister of Health and Welfare. Of these five are in Prince County. eight? in Kink! County 31 in Queens.

Dr. Curtis says that there are

signs that the disease is enllnk off in the Charlottetown area and the most recent cases reported come from the Eastern end oi the II- iand. The local department of Health is hopeful that the peak season for the development of new cases has been ruched. Eight of this year's cues are being cared for at the Polio Unit in Charlottetown while leverll others are attending on an out- patient basis. The chemicals were applied to the soil at the t.ime of planting. and. in a few pints, the treatments were repeated in early August. The purpose of the treat.- menta is to kill the eggs. which are laid in the soil around the plants, or the young larvae before they tunnel into the turnips. Many of these chemicals have ii long resiriiial effect and may persist in the soil for several months. A re- presentative sample of turnips from each treatment was examin- etf by the visitors, and it was ob- served that some materials mani- tested considerable promise of con- trolling the root maggot.

Local Teachers convention At Tignisli concludes

-The second day of the Tgnish focal Teacher's Convention began at 9:30 with roll call.

Mr. Doiron. local supervisor, ex- plained new procedure to be taken in buying Library Books. Mr. Doiron also brought up the point about grading pupils and this brought forth an active and in- teresting discussion.

Next number on the program was a demonstration on Physical Education by Mr. George Andrews.
