Laurier, Tarte & Company have failed in slmost every particular to do that which they led their Liberal supporters to believe they would do.

[SIR LOWIS AND THE RAILWAY MEN

Tus Patriot is cackling considerably over the part—the important part—it claime Sir Louis Davies took in connec- tion with the increase of pay recently re- ceived by the conductore, baggage-men, brakettien and yatd-men of the Island railway. It says that to Sir Louis’ prompt action the increase is due, and thinke that the railway men benefitted should appre- ciate what he has done for then,

The Patriot evidently does not attach much importance to the part played in thi§ matter by the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors, the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and timilar organigations with which the Island railway men are con- nected, and which put up euch a strong fight for the increase that it could not be longer withheld. It was Sir Louis who “ killed the bear,”

But there are other men in the railway employ—carpenters, machinists, black - smiths, painters, boiler-makers, round- house men and laborers—who have tot been helped by Bir Louis,

In April last, we believe, these men sent to Sir Louis Davies, the Patriot's idol, aschedule of the rates of pay they received, and asked that they be given an increase sll around in proportion to the pay ofthe men in the railway shops at Moncton. But to this day the prayer of the petitioners has not been anewered, The receipt of the petition they sent to Sir Louis has not, so faras we know, ever been acknowledged.

While in Opposition Sir Louis pro» mised an increase of pay to these men. But when he obtaimed power, and was in a position to render them assistance, he took no notice of their claim.

His own ends were attained,and it made

no difference who suffered. *
