Despite the sub-zero weather, a good number of Cubs turned up at the meeting of the Pack on Mon- day night, and all were on time.

Two new games were introduced. The one by Beloq called for keen observation, and the game intro- duced by Akela called for good balancing skill.

The Cubs were told of the Church Parade next _Sllndly and about meeting at the Kirk Hell et 10.30 Sunday morning. The sup- per for the cubs, Scouts, Guides, and Brownies will be held next Monday evening at 6 o'clock.

Few Canadians nre better known or more highly regarded in labor circles than William L. Best. 08E. vi-ho retired Decetnber 31 which terminated 3’! years’ ser- ics as vice-president and na- tional legislative representative ‘of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Elngiriemen. The fact that he has been so.-fre- quently reelected to that office over so long a period. testifies toy the esteem in which he is held by the 10.000 members of that: important railway brotherhood.

Mr. Best, by reason oi his in- tegrity. good judgment and sound knowledge 'oi labor matters has also won the esteem oi members of both Federal and Provincial Governments. ,to whom from time to time he has made suggestions as to better and safer working conditions ior railroad end allied workers. He was one of the group 0,! labor men who drafted the

Ontario Workmens Compen- sation Act. and he has been largely instrumental in helping to introduce similar legislation

It was not long before he was promoted to fireman. and later to engineer. which rating he had held for 1o years when appointed to the head office o! the brotherhood at Ottawa in 1910. He was one of the engine crew that conveyed the Duke of Cornwall and York (later George V) across Canada early in the century when he recalls they were all given new overalls for the occasion.
