PARIS. (AP)-After 18 months of squabbling. the French are about ready to let the United States lay a jet fuel pipeline across France.

High ranking French officials said the pact would be sealed within two or three weeks. i

The pipeline would carry fuel for the jet fighters and bombers of the US. Air Force stationed .in France and West Germany. The coat of the project could not be learned.

The pipeline is expected to be laid diagonally across France from Bordeaux to Meta, some 440 air line miles.

The Opposition leader dealt mainly with agricultural matters in his speech and noted that the low price of 'pork had resulted in . the sale of many of the top qual- ity sows and this. he slated.meant that today no young pigs could be bought in the Province. At this point Mr. Harvey Douglas, Second Kings. remarked "Last fall we could not give them away."

Mr. Bell spoke of the drop in price of pork in December which caused too many breeders to sell their pigs and then in January the price rose four cents instead of go- ing down. He wondered who bene- ntted from this.

Tim Buck -Sees Stalin's Deaih Severe loss

TORONTO, (GP) Tim Buoit. Canadian Communist leader. says the death of Premier Joseph Stalin would be a severe loss to dem- cracy and would endanger world peace.

In a statement isslred as head of the Labor-Progressive party. Buck said the situation following the death of Stalin would be "in sidlously utilized by those elements hostile to the Russian leader and they would increase their efforts to aggravate the cold war."

Pat Walsh To Meet Canadian Justice Minister

QUEBEC. (CF) Pat Walsh. labor organizer who last week said he resigned from several Com- munist front organizations. says he will meet Justice Minister Garson to volunteer any information he has on Communist activities in Canada.

Walsh declined to indicate where the meeting will take place but told reporters he was approached by the Justice Department last Sunday. two days after he an- nounced his break with the Red- ciominated organizations.

Reporting that 250 trained Com- munist saboteurs are spotted across Canada, Walsh said Com- munist schools for training in sabotage and espionage were lo- cated at Bracebridge, Ont. and Camp Lafond, near L'Asccnslon,

Agriculture Discussed In N. S. Legislature

HALIFAX, (OP) -- Agriculture Minister MaoKenzie told the legis- lature Wednesday that a. 38,000,000 drop in Nova Scotia farm income in 1952 was caused largely by Can- ada's foot-and-mouth disease out- break and a return from "abnorm- ally high" beef and pork prices the previous year.

He said the province's farm economy was heavily dependent on livestock and suffered severely, along with the rest of Canada. from the United States embargo following the discovery of the foot- and-mouth ailment.

He predicted little price relief in the re-opening of U.S. markets because prices across the border are currently a few cents lower than those in Canada.

Answering a request from George Wilson (PC-Hants West) for floor prices, Mr. MacKenzie said such policies are plagued by two diffi- culties - setting a standard pro- ductiun cost and evolving a price level which does not encourage over-production of any particular product.

Russeu Cunningham (C.C.F. Cape Breton East) warned that heavy buying at floor prices would put the government into the live- stock business and would be fol- lowed by depressed markets.

The annual departmental report tabled by Mines Minister McKin- non showed a six-per-cent decline ooai output during 1052. but there were big increases in gold and silver production.

"Queen Charlotte" on the Coro- nation Contingent, it was an- nounced by Lieutenant K. A. Mac- Kcnzlc, Commanding Officer of the local Naval Establishment here last night.

Leading Seaman MacLeod join- ed the Reserves of H. M. C. 8. ”Queen Charlotte" as an Ordin- ary Seaman, Naval Storesman, in March. 1950. In the spring of the following year he went to H. M. C. S. ”Naden" on the West Coast for a three months Naval Stores- man course.

On completion of this course he returned to "Queen Charlotte" and remained on the staff of the Barracks until October, 1961, as an Able Seaman, Naval Statesman. In the summer of 1952 he Joined H.M.C.S. ”Ci-escent” and went on a months cruise to the United Kingdom. From September, 1952. until the present time he has re- mained on the Reserve strength of "Queen Charlotte". Leading Sea- man MacLeod was promoted to the rank he now holds in December of last year.

He received his early education at Orwell Cove school and later at Prince of Wales College where he took one year Academic, and the Second Year Commerce. It is expected that he will leave HM. C.S. "Queen Charlotte" about the middle of next month and return to the Province in about 10 weeks.

Previous to joining the Reserve. Leading Seaman MacLeod was In employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia in Charlottetown.

To Discuss N. S.. Maine Ferry

HALIFAX. (CF)-Transport Min- ister Chevrier and Resources Min- ister Winters will fly to Halifax Thursday to discuss the Yarmouth- Bar Harbor, Me., ferry with Pre- mier Macdonald.

Premier Macdonaid confirmed the visit but declined to say what aspect of the ferry construction would be discussed. "It could be any number of things." he said.

Construction of the ferry, to op- erate on the busy tourist run and replace the old service from Yar- mouth to Boston, is a Joint fed-'4 eral-provinclai effort.

It said instances of "Cheyne- Stokes" breathing became more frequent. This is a snore-like breathing, broken by intervals of no breairhing at all. It gets its name from Dr. John Cheyne, a sect, who first described it more than 100 years ago.

The new bulletin said Stalin's pulse now was an irregular 105 to 116. It was reported to have reached 120 soon after his seizure.

NEW YORK. (AP) - The mys- tery of Stalin in illness is much like the mystery of Stalin in health, just what is happening in his brain?

This time the enigma is not what he is thinking. It is what has hap- pened physically in his brain, How severe was his stroke which put paralyzing pressure upon parts of his brain?

Only Russian doctors attending him. who can examine him, really know what his chances are, if he still is living.

A person's chances of surviving or recovering from a stroke range from complete to zero, explains a prominent New York physician who asked not to be identitied.

A stroke like Stalin's killed Pres- ident Roosevelt quickly.

Louis Pasteur, the great French scientist. suffered a stroke at 40, and lived in good health another 30 years. He had a slight limp as iihe only sign of his brush with death.

A stroke comes when a blood vessel breaks, letting blood flow out into brain tissue. For survival, the haemorrhage must stop. sur- gery to try to stop it generally falls.

WASHINGTON. (AP)-President Eisenhower expressed prayerful sympathy for the people of Russia Wednesday in connection with news of the serious illness of Premier Stalin.

Then he went into top-level con- ferences apparently aimed at fit- ting United States policy to de- velopments that could carry the- seed of great danger. great good. or anything in between.

Meanwhile the belief gained ground -among top officials here that the Soviet dictator must be at the point of death-or perhaps even already dead. Their view is that such disturbing news never would have been given out unless Kremlin officials had given up hope of his recovery.

In Congress the report that Sta- lin had suffered a stroke brought out varying ideas on the probable results. They ranged from expres- sions of hope that Stalin's death would set off an internal upheaval that would call a halt to Soviet aggression and might even bring up a leader more amenable to peace. all the way to fears that a top man even more intranslgent would emerge and the Reds would try even bold: adventures abroad to keep the people in line at home.
