The old fmntiersman was born at Lake St. Joseph in the Patricia district in 1827. His father was em- ployed there by the Hudson's Bay Company. Today‘ Jonathon is still healthy and his memory is unim- paired. Jonathan's brother Jacob died last year at Fort Alexander at the age oi 107.

Pioneers Def-eat Red Wings 4-3 In Close Game.

The game was a sort of u. plu-ll- el-‘s contest between Wilson of the Wines and Schllrnltln for the Pioneers. Wilson was batted quite lively but yielded only 2 clean hits. U16 rest being foa- the most part hard grounders which were not handled by the usually bril- liant Red Wings infield. Wilson allowed no passes to first and struck out four batters. Sohurman on the mound for the Pioneers was touched for eight safeties in- cluding a long triple to right by McInnis in the sixth and doubles by Ward and Wilson. However as in his two pievious starts oi the scrim, Schurman was cool in the pinches and after the Wings got to hlm for three runs in the opening canto he V held them scoreless for the reminder of the game. His team mates fielded Perfectly and their four errors were on poor throws to the bases which did no serious damage.

The diminutive Pioneer hurler struck out eight batters and walk- ed three. one of which was in- tentional. Elmer Ward knocked the first pitched bull to right for a single to start the Red Wing rally in the opening frame. Lid- stone was safe as Waiter-worth dropped a low throw at first, Ward going to third. Phillips doubled, scoring Ward and Lid- stone. Wanen grounded out, Schurman to Watterworth but Wilson came through with a single to score Phillips with the final Red Wing run. Schulz-man now boa-e down striking out Hickey and forcing Steele to ground weakly to second.

The Pioneers scored two runs in the third on four Bled Wing errors, three being consecutive. Dan McInnis leading oi~i was safe as . Warren booted his sharp grounder. Dodds was out as he bunted foul on the third sfmike.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind., July 26.»- Many citizens of" Terre Haute, a city of 66.000. were without food sup- plies. ice, gasoline and other neces- sities tonight as they felt the first pinch oi the general strike. A sur- vey of the city showed every retail establishment closed.

Chamber of Commerce officials, who said the loss to business thus far was approximately $200,000, de- cllned to estimate the number of stores closed.

The doors oi every grocery. res- taurant, barber shop, gasoline filling station; department store, theatre. clothing store. tavern, drug store and other commercial establishments were locked. Drug departments of drug stores remained open, but large "closed” signs were tanked on soda fountain mirrors.

Many residents were caught after the week-end with larders and gaso- line tanks empty. A walkout of members of the teamsters‘ union prevented deliverv of fresh meats. vegetables and milk. Filling stations were unable to obtain tank wagon deliveries.
