Skarinec.—Ten thousand people saw Louis Rubinstein, of Montreal, champion of the world, win the figure skating champion- ship of the United States at Spy Pond, Bosten, on last Saturday. Rubinstein’s sister won the ladies’ championship. Irwin the Canadian flyer; Jim Donohve, of New burgh, N. Y., and others were present to contest the speed championships, which were, however, indefinitely postponed ow- ing to the bad condition of the course.

Snor By Buretars.—At an early hour on Tuesday morning, burglars entered the house of John Hislop, town treasurer of Anaver,Un*., who lived with his daughter about a mile from the village. When the burglars were searching for valuables the old man heard them, and arose frem his bed. As soon as the burglars saw the old inan they became alarmed, and one of them shot him in the heart, killing him instant’y. After doing the sho ting, both burglars decamped. <A diamond ring is believed to bs the only property they secured. Tho burglars have nut yet been arrested.

Royvan Areayum.—‘'The proceedings of the thirteenth annual session of the Supreme Council, Royal Arcanum,” is issued. From this work it is learned that the membership of the order at the 3lat December, 1389. was 97,957, while at the 3lst December, 1890, it waa 110,700, a very gratifying increase. The amount of death benefits paid out to the lst of May, 1890, was $13,472,578.20 ; and the amount of ingnrance at present in force is upwards of 300,000,009. Its death rate is the lowest among all the large co-operative insurance societies, being for 1889 7.65 per 1.000, or two-thirds lower than that of the best old line insurance company.

Anresrep For Train Wreckine —Some months ago, saya the Moncton Times, the express to St. John had a narrow escape from being wrecked near Anagand, a heavy yiece of timber being placed across the track. Some persons were arrested on suspicion at the time, but there being no evidence against them.they were released from custody. The railway police have been keeping their eyes open since that time, however, and a few daysago they arrested a young man who worked on @ farm near the scene of the diswter. He confessed the crime and also confessed that he burned a house in the vicinity, while the people were absent. The name of the young man is not given. He is to be brought to Moncton for examination !

The ban- quiet was given by a number of Mr, Foley's personal friends, and was in every respect &yrand success. Amongst those present were Hon. John Costigan, Minister of Pub- lie Works; Mr. P. Baskerville, ex- ". PP; ex-Mayor Dougall and many “ther prominent gentleman. Mr. Foley Was also entertained in a similar manner at the Windsor Hotel, Almont, Ont., and Presented with an address and a gold-headed cane. Mr. Foley, it may be remarked here, Was a close personal friend of the late A. W. Greehan, of Charlottetown, who was for many years attached to one of the lead- ‘ng New York papers. Hon. Mr. Windom, Secretary of the United States Treasury, dropped dead last evening at the Board of Trade dinner in this city. Jt was at the close of his speech in reply to the toast in his honor that the awful scene occurred. The most intense excitement prevailed at the time. Heart disease was dechared the’ cause. No such tragic event has occurred in New York for many years.

Medical circles here, and the public generally, are excited over the goat’s blood cure for consumption. The cure of two cases of tubercolosis is anneunced. In both ef these cases fifteen grains of goats blood were injected into the thighs of each patient.
