Encouraging news comes from 8t. John, where, acoordbg to Mr. H. C. Schofleld, president of the St. John Harbor Commission, the city is looking forward to one of the biggest shipping seasons ln the history of the port. Substantial grounds for ths assertion are found by Nfr. Schoflcld .n the preferences granted as a result of the agreements Ilched at the Imperial Economic Conference; in an increasing reali-

‘ zarion in other parts of Canada that Maritime Atlantic ports are entitled to fullest patronage, and to an im- provement, sight but noticeable, in general conditions. Mr. Schofield re- ports thirty additional sailings by recognized steamship lines as hav- ing already been scheduled over and above the number from the port of 5t. John last year. 200 liner sailings are antlCipalPd during the winter months and there is good assurance that the volume o.’ freight will war- rant them. In addition to this, due to indications of a greatly increased volume of grain flowing through St. John this winter, preparations are being made for a heavy tramp ton- cage.

Prom another Maritime port,— that of Halifax-comes the news that the first grain special has ar- rived from the West and this is ex- pected to be the forerunner of 20 or 25 more, which will be required to handle the 2,500,000 bushels of grain already booked for shipment through Halifax during December alone.

In addition to grain, the growth of Halifax as a cattle-shipping port was indicated in Montreal dis- patches which slated that the Richelieu Corporation of Montreal would ship a total of 238 head of cattle to Great Britain from Hali- fax on December 23, and after that date would ship animals at the rate

Their findings are: (a) Migraine commonly begins during the first ten years of life and before the age of twenty in about 60 per cent of cases. This is about the same age and occurrence as with hay fever, asthma and other conditions due to this sensitlveness to various sub- stances.

(b) Migraine is most frequent among business and professional men and teachers—,iust as these other "sensitive" or allergic ail- ments are also commonest in this class.

(c) Heredity, inheriting the ten- dency, is the most important cause in ‘migraine, as in all "allergic" dis- eases.

Henry Morton Robinson, a for- mer instructor at Columbia Univer- slty, has an amusing article in Col- lege Humor entitled “No Prodigles, Please." Fortunately, he says, the true intellectual prodigy is rare. Mr. Robinson was a grammar school contemporary of William James Sidls, who at the age of thirteen lectured on the fourth dimension to a group of Harvard professors. The father of Sidis was a. believer in "latent: power"; he held that the human mind was employing only a fractional part of its energy, and could be indefinitely expanded by early and constant training. If he had left out the word "early" he would not have been wtogether wrong. The boy could read and write at the age of three, entered school at seven, and fore through eight grades in six months. At the age of seven he was utterly spoiled, rude and conceited. At eight he knew five languages. He was also a botanist and an excellent music- ian. Entering Howard, he resolv- ed to specialize in quaternions, des- cribed as the highest form of pure mathematics. Before a razor had touched his cheek he was through with life. l-le tried lecturing, writ_ lng. teaching, and they all bored him with their futility. At last he took n job as bookkeeper, and when last heard of was running an ad- ding machine. Of another prodigy it is said that his achievement was mere routine memorizing. He knew his facts cold, just as they came out of the book, but when ft came tn interpreting these facts or correlat- ing them with actual experience, he was utterly at a loss.
