Red Gross Society Homemakers Service

An important project, oven if among the least publicized, of the Prince Edward Island Division oi the Canadian Red Cross is the Homemaker service.

This service is designed to help families where there are children and the mother is ill either at home or in hospital. The Horne- maker will be on duty weekdays from between 8 to 8:30 in the morning to 6:30 to s at night. On Saturday till 1 pm. She will not be available on Sunday or holi- days except by special permission with the supervisor.

The duties of a Homemaker in- cludsshopillnl. cock the meals. seethat children get off to school, fed. clean and properly dressed; do. the washing for a new baby, pre-school children and a bed patient; do the ironing for the family; keep the house tidy; mop and sweep floors. The Homemakers do not scrub floors nor do the heavy family wash: they will do the ironing. The need of each family is different and must be considered individually.

The charge is adjusted in con- sultation wiih the Red Cross Su- pervisor. Some families will pay the full cost, some part of the coat, and others may receive the service free. ‘The charge is alway confidential.
