The University of Prince Edward Island Soccer Panthers won one and tied one. in Atlantic University Athletic Association soccer action 'in Nova ‘- Scotia last weekend.

The Panthers rebounded from the tie Saturday and blanked Dalhousie University 4—0 in Halifax Sunday.

. times to lead the Panthers to

their ﬁfth win of the season in the AUAA. Scotty scored his first goal in the first half and the half ended with UPEI up 1—0.

The second half saw the Panthers taking entire control of the play and for- ward Scotty Neil added three more.

Coah Gordie Wilson said the 1-1 tie Saturday gave a lot of confidence to some of the players knowing they do well play with key players on the mend.

Wilson said Sunday that Dalhousie played as though they were playing for a tie. This showed in the number of throw-ins and corner kicks. Whenever the Panthers took the ball into the Dal- housie zone the bail usually went out of play.

UPEI has eleven points with the win and tie last weekend and are in top posi- tion as the Panthers travel to Fredericton this weekend for two games with the Univer- sity of New Brunswick.

Hopefully this roadtrip will

be even'more successful than'

last weekend’s.

The Fan Van may have been cancelled last weekend, but the number of island fans numbered about ﬁfty in Halifax and about twenty in St. F.X., many of whom were students at the re- spective schools or people who just happened to be in the neighborhood and dropped by.

All players love Prince Edward Island and the uni- versity otherwise we wouldn’t be here, says spokesmen. “All we want is the respect we deserve from the Athletic Department”.

As Paul Peacock put it, “If they want us to perform like champions they better start treating us like champ— ions”

The 1984 version of the soccer Panthers could well be the most successful of any UPE/ team in any sport. To let students and coaches leave the campus playing field with a frown on their faces, especially after achieving such remarkable success, is certainly an outrage.

But only time will tell may the Athletics Department will see Fit to increase funding for the team.
