Archibald Forbes Relates a Thrilling In- cident of the Zula War.
Archibald Forbes has seen so many brave deeds that it was with some nat- ural curiosity that we turned to his pa- per In Pearson's Magazine under this itle. The deed which he selects as the oravest that he ever saw was the rescue of a wounded trooper, which won for ord Charles Beresford the Victoria Cross. He thus tells the story:—

“The Zulus, darting outin haste, were verilously close to the poor fellow, but Beresford, measuring distance with the ‘ye, saw a chance of anticipating them. Galloping back to the wounded man, and dismounting, he confronted his ad- versaries with his revolver, while urging the soldier to get on his horse.
“The wounded man bade Seresford remount and fly, Why, said he, should swo dle when death was inevitable but © one? ‘The quaint resourceful humor xf his race did not fail Beresford in this crisis; he turned on the wounded man and swore with clinched fist that he would punch his head if he did not as- sist in the saving of his life.
‘This droll argument prevailed. Still ‘acing his foes with his revolver, Beres- ‘ord partly lifted, partly hustled the nan into the saddle, then scrambled up niinself and set the chestnut a-going af- ter the other horsemen; another mo- ment’s delay and both must have been assegatied.

A Coyote Trick,
H. H. Sappington was in the city Friday and brought up several coyote skins to be punched by the country clerk, says the Bozeman Chronicle. We are here reminded that Mr. Sappington relates an incident te which he was an eye-witness, that proves the coyote to be a sharp-witted beast. He was out in tho hills near his ranch, when he noticed a coyote chasing a jack rabbit at the top of his speed. Away they went, the rabbit gradually curving his course and finally coming back to the starting point.
Now suddenly a second coyote sprung out of hiding and took his turn at swing- ing around the circle, the tired coyote resting. They kept this performance up until they wore out the poor jack. Mr. Sappington was of the opinion that the coyote, in order to secure a dinner of jack rabbit, had entered into an arrange- ment with a brother coyote to join him in the hunt. For no wolf can singly run down a jack rabbit, and if the latter shonld run in a straight course no number of wolves could possibly catch it; but the rabbit nearly always runs ina wide circle, because it is its nature to return to its native slope of pastvre.
Flesh of Sheep.
That the flesh of sheep fed by the sea is superior to that of those fed inland may be attributed to the fact that the most suitable feeding grounds are to be found in the proximity of the coast. Sheep delight in the short grass and peculiar herbage of hill pastures and bare fields; and the mutton produced in such pastures, and by the breeds most suitable to them, is of superior quality to that of the large, fat sheep on richer soil. The multitude of tiny shells so often found on every foot of turf is also very eflicacious in fattening and nourish- ing the animal, Aromatic and bitter herbs are partisulariy relished by sheep, while the salt deposited on the herbage by the sea winds is a valuable addition
to their diet. The finest mutton to be obtained in France is procured from sheep fed on the salt marshes of Nor-

Orrawa, Aug. 10.—-The inveterate re- luctance to admit the success of patent medicine, usually evinced by pbysicians, is rapidly giving way so faras Dodd’s Kidney Pills are concerned.
